Sample at the Bistro’s DIPA-festival 2015. Light amber with a white head. Fresh and hoppy with citrus, grapefruit and pineapple. Also hay and light notes of cookies. The finish was bitter.

Tap at The Davis Beer Shoppe. Pours golden amber with a white head. Aroma of cooked malt and a very light touch of caramel. Med body or nearly. Flavor isn’t exactly "cooked", but something cereal like that. An odd flavor to me - just a little hop - it has a flavor that is just not one I enjoy.

Enjoyed at gabf 2014. It pours with a clear deep gold body that has copper hues and supports a tan head of foam. The modest aroma is pine and a little bit of doughy caramel maltiness. The taste has a nice sweetness with malts and a dash of sweet tangelo and then it quickly gets into firm levels of resiny pine hop bitterness. These big bold slightly malt sweetened pine hops are soon joined by a little more sweet malts and then sliding into a pretty nice after taste. This is a really nice sipper but there’s that edge of caramel malts and sort of doughiness that really doesn’t work that well with the hops.

Enjoyed at gabf 2014. It pours with a deep crystal clear gold body that supports a thin off white head. The aroma is kind of a sweet mix of toffee and a sense of caramel malts blending with a modest pine hoppiness. The tastes is nice as it starts with sweet malts and a dash of caramel and then it tosses up a big dose of smooth pine hoppiness. To midway those notes pick up just a bit of citrus hop flavor backed up by some malt sweetness. The sweet malts and caramel malts don’t seem to work all that well here as they pull the flavor apart. But these notes do help blend and smooth out the firm resiny pine hoppiness into a pretty decent experience. OK, another one I’m not really sure what to think. Hmm.

Enjoyed at gabf 2014. It pours with a clear deep gold body that has copper hues and supports a tan head of foam. The modest aroma is grainy, a little doughy, a dash of wort and then behind all of that it gets sort of candy floral and a bit of citrus in the background. The taste is similar being a little bready sort of doughy as well as a bit wort like. Behind this sort of maltiness it has grassy and a bit of spicy hoppiness that has a pleasing degree of hoppy resin bitterness. This delivers an interesting flavor combination and it doesn’t seem like it’s working at times but it also comes together now and then. I’m not sure what to think of this.

Tap at Capitol Beer in Sacramento, CA. Pours gold with a white head. Aroma seems to be unusual fruits with citrus. Med + body. Flavor is lots of hop and light caramel. Hop approaches dank, seems earthy, fruity, maybe spicy. Finishes hoppy and bitter.

Sample at GABF 10/04/2014, thanks to my BIL for assistance with note-taking. Brownish-black color with a medium khaki head that recedes steadily. Short strings of lace. Aroma of roast malt, coffee and hops. Medium to full body with flavors of roasted malt, dark chocolate and coffee. The finish is roasty with a malt aftertaste. Pretty good overall.

4 oz draft at Device Brewing. Black with tan head. Aromas of vanilla, chocolate, roast. Tastes of bitter roast, dark chocolate, bready notes. Medium body with a dry finish. Thin oily mouthfeel. Interesting idea to use English ale yeast but it doesn’t work for me in a RIS.

Tap at Capitol Beer in Sacramento, CA. Pours light amber with a white head. Aroma is strong mixed floral hop . Med body. Flavor is flowers and berries and I don’t know what the other things are. Could be melon? Among other things I call dank. It is delicious.
