(Bottle 50 cl) Incredibly beautiful full golden colour with a rather huge head. Fresh nose of barley. Lots of sweet malt and less bitternes than for instance Urquell. Velvety soft body. Having tried this on tap at the brewery assures me, that this simply must be the world’s best pilsener. No less.

(Bottle 50 cl) Comes as "Budejovický Budvar Svetlé výcepni pivo". The lighter version of Budweiser is a bit paler and drier than the original. It still has the same lovely malt-haracter though. A very nice light pilsener, and proof that light doesn’t necessarily equal bland.

(Bottle 50 cl) Comes as "Budejovicky Budvar Free - Nealkoholické pivo". Nice golden, decent head. Impressively this beer contains a lot of the same characteristics as the "real" Budweiser, particularly the nice malt-character. Not bad at all for a NA.

Unfortunately very aged sample. However, as nothing will ever equal the lagertank unpasteurised and unfiltered version I was poured on visiting the brewery lab, no rating will ever do right to this beer for kings. Sallow amber beer, no head. Virtually no aroma left, very faraway pale and crystal malt, vaguely nutty and hay. Taste is significantly better: a portlike aroma, walnuts and even some blue cheese wafts. It lacks however the hoppiness of the fresh beer, let alone the infinite complexity of the unfiltered/unpasteurised version - in pilsenerstyle only bettered by the then similar version of Pilsener Urquell. Quite malty still. Light MF, oxydized. Pilsener is not for ageing. No mistake, I will rerate this once I get a really fresh sample - say in Czechia again...

Tapped. Dark red colour, large beige foamy head. Malty, a bit bitterish aroma with weak hints of plum (?). Roasted flavour with hints of malt and barley. The roast grows in the finish. Not that much aftertaste.

Tapped. Yellow/golden colour, decent white foamy head. Bready/hoppy nose with hints of grassiness. Flavour is quite hoppy with huge peak after a few seconds, the finish is quite "vegetably". Bittersweet aftertaste and leaves the mouth a bit sticky.

Draught
Dark nut brown, small brown head. Aroma has fruits: flowery hops, trefoil, menthol and hints of roast. Refrshing with flowery hops. Oily hoppy and chocolaty aftertaste. Much better than "normal" Budvar.

[At Jyske Øldage 2004, Kolding] A dark amber beer with an OK but collapsing off-white head. The aroma is sweet malty with notes of caramel, while the flavor is sweet malty leading to a nice bitter finish.

Bottle. Complex aroma - lemon, hay, sour malt. Dark yellow without much head. Suprising light flavor for the alcohol content - sweetness upfront, slight citrus flavor with a moderate hops finish - the finish is also when I really noticed the higher alcohol content.

Bottle. Sour malt aroma but not unpleasant. Medium yellow color. Light malt flavor with a decent hops finish. Weak version of regular Czech Budweiser. "Svĕtlé výčepní pivo" is the name of this beer in Czech and has the regular Budvar label with blue accents.
