Test vom 30.1.2007, Gebinde: Glasflasche Noten: 12,12,13,13,12,13 - 12,70

(bottled, 4.7% ABV, as Budw. Premiun Dark Lager) Clear, dark mahogany colour with a big and slowly lacing beige foamy head. Sweet and roasty dark malt aroma with a touch of cacao and distinctive herbal and slightly grassy hops. Bitter flavour, roast-malty taste with notes of caramel, chocolate and coffee; rather slim bodied with a well-carbonated mouthfeel; dry and bitter finish with caramel, a hoppy blend and chocolate in the aftertaste. Likeable.

Hmm... this is sold as one of the premium beers in the Czech place, but probably the normal Budvar is a better beer. High on the alcohol and it cuts down a little on the taste that the lower alcohol one had. This is less subtle, but still has a nice color and taste and is certainly very drinkable. Go for it.

An excellent beer. It is ironic that the Czech Republic is one of the few countries where some of the best beers there are also the most popular. Well, maybe it is not ironic per se, actually it makes sense. This beer is extremely smooth, but at the same time flavourful. It is something that you can turn around in your mouth and enjoy, then swallow with glee. You can swill it or sip it and it is still great. Nice golden colour. Refreshing and crispy like a bag of Doritos.

On tap (@ Pivni Bar U Medvidku, Prague) Krouzkovany = Kraeusened...... Golden coloured, slightly hazy; sweet-malty and slightly hoppy nose with a faint - nearly sourish - tinge of yeast; mild bitter-sweet flavour, very light malty body; delicate, clean bitter-sweet finish. A tasty, but rather restrained brew, only available in the "Beer Bar" of the well-known restaurant and brewery U MEDVIDKU in Prague !

Nose of a little grainy malt and very little hops; gold with a small white head; flavor of some sweet malt with a tiny hop finish. Bottle says best by 02/2006 so hops may have faded.
