On keg at Brewdog Lothian Rd, Edinburgh. Appearance - matt brown to black. Attractive fawn head. Nose - coffee bean with just a hint of chocolate. Burnt bread. Taste - distinct lack of saison yeast notes. Instead it has stout or even coffee stout notes. Palate - creamy and light to medium bodied with a dry finish. Overall - it's a saison Jim, but not as we know it.

Keg at BD Stirling. It pours jet black with decent light tan head. The aroma is rich roast, peppery spice, star anise, liquorice, ashy and oatmeal & raisin cookie. The taste is crisp, dry, bitter, rich roast, ashy, peppery spice, dark fruits, bitter dark chocolate, straw anise, liquorice and coffee grounds with a drying finish. Medium body and moderate, prickly carbonation. Feels more like a stout than saison, but decent anyhow.
