In the period after 1850, the De Meester-Boelens brewery was founded at the current address in the Kerkstraat. in 1897 the name changed to Boelens-De Meester. Brewing stopped during World WarI, after the war the family continued the business as a bottling and beer enterprise. In 1978 Kris Boelens took over the beer business from his father. He reintroduced beer brewing in Belsele in 1993. In 2016 his son Yannick Boelens joined the brewery.

Bottle 33 cl. Pours a murky, opaque olive amber with hardly any head. Decent, fresh hop aroma with some yeast. Medium body, fruit - and then an ocean of horrible phenols. A piece of humble advice: if you’re going through the effort of getting good hops, do NOT drown them in phenols. Dammit Belgian yeast, utterly useless for hoppy beers. Find a more neutral one please. 030915

Troebel lichtbruin bier met veel schuim. Smaak is zoetzuur en fruitig met iets van gember en kaneel. Apart maar erg goed. Smaak blijft lang hangen.

Bottle courtesy of Deanso. Poured a murky dark brown with a frothy light tan head. The aroma is red berry citrus yeast. The flavour is moderate bitter with a light citrus, big woody hop bitter palate and a lingering bitter finish. Medium bodied with average carbonation.

Brown colour, off-white head. Aroma of brown sugar, spices, red fruits and ginger. Quite fruity. Light sour flavour, malts, caramel and banana. Quite dry. Fruity finish, caramel. Not your typical dubbel, and I quite like it.
