Bottle at Craig’s. Pours golden amber, nose is floral, taste is light citrus, peach.

Modeste 14 Pours unclear blonde . Smell is buttery , bit sweet . Taste is very sharp bitter . Overcarbonated to the extreme , bit sweet . Some hops . Sounded better than it is...

75 cl. bottle sampled @ Modeste 2014. Amber. Sparkling golden, fluffy soap bubbles head. Nose is very strange hops, seems like EU-origin, soapy & medicinal. Taste is same strange medicinal hops, soapy, chemical, white sugar, white bread, very fizzy. I’m anything but an enthusiast here.

Strawberry beer for the yearly Miss Strawberry elections in Melsele (a village associating itself with strawberry culture). Cream white, thin but dense, creamy head, peach blond colour with orangey hue, cloudy with deposit. Aroma reveals lots of fresh strawberry indeed, no extracts or anything artificial, next to hints of bread, banana, pear, brown sugar, yeast and hops but unfortunately a lot of H2S (rotten egg) as well - this beer is clearly infected, not the first time I encounter this in a Boelens brew. Malty, grainy taste, fruity, mineral-like with subtle but definitely fresh and ’raw’ strawberry presence, mild hop bitterishness in the end. Could have been a lot better without the infection.

Boelens version of a beer originally designed by André Paeleman apparently. Gushing, off-white foam, quickly opening; colour peach blond with orange hue, hazy. Strong fruitiness in the nose, orange, pineapple, melon, coriander, wheat, floral hops, some phenols, gin-like alcohol, cardboard. Citrussy and fruity onset, sweetish, pretty strong carbo, light caramel and honeyish malt sweetness, strong coriander effect as is too often the case in this kind of beers, phenolic and alcoholic finish, a bit wry with (too) low hoppiness. Not very good.

Four year old sample. A bronze coloured honey beer with very thick, beige head and sweetish taste with hints of caramel and coffee, dry hoppy finish with warming alcohol. Made for a committee which tries to keep the memory of the Boerenkrijg alive, hence the name. Not bad.

Clear mahogany brown. Thin lacy head. Aroma of sweet malts and dried red fruits. Flavour is on the sweet side with the dried fruits although it’s certainly very drinkable and not cloying.

Cloudy (my fault) deep blond to beige beer, huge off-white soapy head, little stable, non adhesive. Aroma: bit funky, yeast, sourish, coriander, bit sugary, some marzipan, pine wood, funky and wild character. MF: way too much carbon, medium body. Taste: bit sweet start, bitter yeast, lots of spices, coriander, liquorish, bit of aniseed, unpleasant bitterness, funky, hay, bit grassy, sweet. Aftertaste: very unpleasant bitterness, lots of spices, orange peel, maybe cardamom, coriander, bit oxidized, overripe banana, unpleasant yeasty ending.

Cloudy pale yellow color, white edge head. Aroma of dusty lemon and straw. Taste is sticky lemon and bread.

Apparently made for the Heeren van Liedekercke but tasted at Zythos Bierfestival 2005. I must have received the bottom of the bottle, as it had an ochre-hued brown colour with full milky cloudiness, not very pleasant to look at; beige, thin head. Fruity, sweet aroma of pear, chocolade, ginger; fruity, sweet and very yeasty taste with a bit of toasted bitterness and spicy hops in the finish, ending dry. Should re-rate this from a fresh bottle some day.
