In the period after 1850, the De Meester-Boelens brewery was founded at the current address in the Kerkstraat. in 1897 the name changed to Boelens-De Meester. Brewing stopped during World WarI, after the war the family continued the business as a bottling and beer enterprise. In 1978 Kris Boelens took over the beer business from his father. He reintroduced beer brewing in Belsele in 1993. In 2016 his son Yannick Boelens joined the brewery.

Sampled at Zythos 2009. Hazy gold colour. Belgian yeast ester aroma. It’s a fairly tasty blond with some decent hops on the finish. OK

Sampled at Zythos 2009. Clear amber, lasting beige head. English bitter aroma, malt that has English characteristics especially on the caramel flavour. I thought that it was ok

Draught at ZBF09. Weak spicy aroma, hint of coriander. Cloudy dark yellow colour. Nice big stable creamy white head. The flavour is mildly spicy, mostly clove. Hint of pepper in the finish. Quite clean for a tripel, but slightly anonymous. 7 3 7 3 15
Bottle, 8.5%: 3 years past BB date. Honey aroma. Cloudy golden colour. Big stable creamy white head. The flavour is a little earthy. Has a strange dry liquorice note. I liked it a lot better fresh. 5 3 4 3 9 for this cellared version.

Draught at Zythos, St Niklaas, Belgium, 08-03-09 Pours a murky dark urine colour (sorry but that was my first thought) with a decent white head. I believe that this was passed on from Ian, cheers mate. Musty hoppy aroma. Tingly bitterness is ever present, sweet maltiness, soft in mouth, quite good stuff. A6 A2 F7 P4 OV14 3.3

Draught at Zythos, St Niklaas, Belgium, 08-03-09 Pours murky brown with a small off white head. Light hops on the nose, crikey this drinks much easier than its strength which I had down as 8.5% for some reason. caramel and toffee flavours abound, its fine. A6 A3 F5 P3 OV12 2.9

Draught Gushing from the tap to a huge yellowish head, muddy yellow-orange beer, with nice lace. Mildly coloured and pale malts, garden herbs, celeri. Rather sweet, maybe a tad underattenuated for a tripel. Ends drieer, however. Some faint, unobtrusive veggie notes, and white candi sugar. Medium bodied, spritzy. Well-crafted, if a tad underattenuated tripel.
