Our Brewmaster Cory O'Neel joined us in the spring of 2016. Cory is a 26-year veteran brewer who specializes in brewing quality control and microbiology. He and his crew have revolutionized the beer at Olde Main. If you haven't had his beer yet, you are missing out. The original eight tap lines have been upgraded to 16 so Cory and his staff have plenty of room to play. Come taste the 'New' Olde Main!!

Draft, at Olde Main. Well, light foam lacing for the last of my sampler (8 5 oz pils glasses for $6). Color is a light brown, just a little cloudy. Again, the taste is spoiled by some sourness that’s either line problems or too warm a ferment. I’m vacillating between generosity and disappointment here, but I hope this is because it’s a new place with room for improvement.

Draft, at Olde Main. Sweet, a little nutty. Comes in a little bit thin and watery, though. Has a nice, Irish ale hoppy smell that does carry through in the taste. Certainly easy drinking. I think most of the brews here are still a work in progress.

Draft, at Olde Main. Big coffee roast smell, that’s for sure. Bit of chocolate in the nose. And a tan head of light foam. Again, a sour taste that may be either a style or distraction. Bit of buckwheat honey in the finish.

Draft, at Olde Main. I immediately noticed the foam leaves thick lace in the glass, unlike the pilsener. That suggests the beer is at least not on an assembly line with just a variation in extract. Deep mahogany brown color in a pils type sampler. Light coffee notes without much bitterness. Malts are just a bit peaty, too. Hops stay in the background. Pretty nice.

Draft, at Olde Main. That’s " ’Clone" as in Cyclones, the Iowa State sports teams whose mascot is a cardinal. Go figure (and I went to college here). Pale ale colored yellow, turns a little bit more red toward the thick part of the glass. Nice lace around the glass. This is the source of the big grainy smell, almost like a pile of extract, though they claim this is "all malt." Tends to distract from any hops that should be in here. Also very sweet. A shame to have to put down such a good looking beer.

Draft, at Olde Main. Well, I don’t like to ding these so much as suggest they are still a work in progress. Menu card claims "Coriander, Chamomile, Orange Peel, and a secret fourth ingredient," but it sure fells like that ingredient is sour cherry. Maybe there’s actually some brett in here. Spices overwhelm the malt and hops, if any.
