THANKS! GIFT. 355 ml. can. No date. Golden bright, big soapy collapsing white head. Nose is huge sweet canned pineapple, pineapple candy, very nice. Great smell. Taste is weak, very high carbonation, very mineral, weird paper pineapple, none of the great candy & canned from the nose. Great smell but weak taste, over carbonated. Bitter washing powder finish. Too bad, smell is great.

Popping the tab gives a nice big, fresh citrus and slight pine nose from hops. The beer is golden and quite hazy, lots of floaty particles. There's a fluffy white head that settles out pretty quickly after the pour is done. The taste has more of those hops in the front. More resin in the lead, followed closely by citrus. There's a bit of a floral note, too, so there may be some hops at work besides the usual Cascade and Citra. The strong malt is present in a golden ale backing and in some sticky beer on the lips. There's a bitter, but easy aftertaste that sticks around for a few minutes past the last swallow. It's a good strong-tasting beer. Plenty of APA hops, but they do not overstay their welcome. It took a few months for Temperance to dial in the kinds of beers they wanted, but now this is one of their better efforts.

Notes from 2016. Described as an Imperial Red. Warming malt & alcohol as expected. A thin scrum of foam. The beer looks cloudy, like it’s fresh out of the tank with no time to settle out. Taste offers stone fruit; a bit of plum amidst the malts, floating in warm alcohol. Some yeast bite to it. Hop bitters stick to my teeth. This is something I would just to swig right down, but you need the discipline to savor this.

Slightly hazy golden and copper coloured body with a nice, three centimetre tall off-white head. Aroma of english hops, malt, alcohol, sugars, caramel, toffee, earth and a bit more hops - nice and grassy/peaty. Medium-bodied; Assertive nutty and earthy flavoured malt up front with a good deal of hop bitterness, some light citrus and piney notes along with a good amount of alcohol punch showing through. Aftertaste shows some toffee and caramel along with metal and alcohol bitterness to complement the hops and the malt, but a good balance of malt and hops without being an American IPA for sure - this is showing some english components, but still shows more hops than anything really English. Overall, a good IPA with some nice tastes that definitely feels different than a typical American IPA. Nice to try if you don’t like West Coast IPAs or want something ’slightly’ different. I sampled this twelve ounce can purchased from Trader Joe’s in Chicago (Ontario Street), Illinois on 11-February-2016 for US$1,67 sampled at home in Washington on 27-August-2016.

On tap at the Boundary. Pours a dark brown with a brown head that dissipates to the edges. Aroma has notes of licorice and sweet dark grains with a hint of chocolate underlying. Flavor has earthy dark grains with some chocolate, licorice and a bit of mustiness.
