Dark brown color, medium-sized tan head. Sweet malty and spicey aroma. Licorice, dark toasted malts, some spices, some hops, quite big malty backbone. After this aftertaste is suprisingly thin with some alcohol, dark fruits and malt. Anyhow another pretty good brew from De Proef mill.

Muddy brown colour. Malty aroma. Smell of alcohol is present too. Slight aniseed flavour at first, some softer cocoa flavours come through in the aftertaste. Rich texture, slightly oily.

330ml bottle. Dark red, almost black body with a beige head. Aroma is sweet, roasted malt and herbs. Flavor is slightly burnt malt, coffee, dry fruit and overripe fruit. Complex.

Thanks austone! Dark nut/ruby brown color, small steady off-white head. American hoppy nose with hints of licorice. Licorice is dominating flavor but there is hints of iron. Some hops, medium to full bodied. Beer for ageing. Not really complex but ok beer for slow drinking.

330ml bottle. Big, rocky off-white head with good retention. Foggy, orange body colour. Moderate smell of sweet dark malts. Full bodied with black honey. Earthy and woody impression. Does not quite blossom, though (Arriva hotel, Kings Cross 13.03.2008)

Medium light brown head. Slightly hazy deep red body. Sweet bubblegum, licorice, and candy aroma with alcoholic roasty malt notes. Wild berry and earthy licorice taste. Dryish chocolatey licorice aftertaste is perhaps the strongest taste. Overall there is surprisingly little taste and depth, though. As you drink, the chocolate comes to dominate more and more. Mild, cool mouthfeel. Not bad, but disappointing for such a strong beer. (0.33l bottle, de Gekraakte Kettel, Amsterdam. BBD Aug ’09.)

Huge light brown shiny lasting head. Good cling. Deep red barely translucent body, made hazy from floaties. Deep sweet harmonic aroma is a mix of alcohol, wild berries, and licorice, surprisingly light, with earthy, herbal notes. Frist impression is licorice and chocolate, but very thin, followed by soapy, peppery notes. Some herbs and earth, too. There is very little taste, though, and it feels strangely light and thin, and even a bit acidic. Seems like it was most likely lightly infected in the bottle. Should rerate. Bottle, 9.8%. Nice sweet hoppiness, soft fruits. Dark cloudy red/orange colour. Small head. The flavour is sweet and very hoppy, American style. Sweetish, fruity hops, getting a little sourish from the overload of hops. Warming alcohol finish. Good mouthfeel. Quite good flavour, but could have a little less alcohol.
