2007 bottle: pours black with no head. Aroma is molasses and chocolate. Almost no carbonation. Molasses, soy sauce, hints of chocolate. Very smooth. Interesting.

2014 vintage, shared with Pilsnertest. Thanks a log Craig! Thick, black, with beige head. Loads of sweet liquorice and chocolate backed up by some solid malty rye bread. Some dark fruits lingering with molasses and a small touch of soy sauce. Phenomenal beer!

330ml bottle [courtesy of Grumbo - thanks a lot for this renowned gem]. Jet black colour with small to average, thick, creamy, moderately lasting and lacing, tan head. Chocolately and spicy, roasty, dark malty aroma, notes of dark chocolate, treacle, dark caramel, herbal and floral overtones, a touch of liquorice and soy sauce. Taste is sweet-ish and minimally bitter, roasty and chocolately dark malty, notes of dark chocolate, Belgian chocolate, treacle, caramel, floral and minimally fruity, hoppy overtones, a touch of blueberry, honey, cautious malty and yeasty spiciness with a minimally bready effect; well hidden alcohol. Oily to viscous texture, smooth and soft palate, fine and gentle, but efficacious carbonation. Not as brute as some US Impy Stouts, but equally rich and deep, very balanced, harmonious. Very good.

Thanks JC. 2012 version. Lovely aroma, bit meaty, bit of smoke, treacle. Great taste, rich, bit of caramel, some kind of marker pen, meaty too, shiitake? Very nice.

2006 bottle from Nightfall. Thanks!," Almost black and opague. Malt, salt and licorice in the aroma. Malty sweet flavor with some roast, licorice, hints of laurel and oak and raisin. Powerful, yet a silky smotth mouthfeel. Very good!",

(Bag-in-box at De Drie Dorstige Herten, Utrecht, 14 Feb 2019) Black colour with brief bubbly head. Malty, roasted, slightly vinous nose with notes of coffee, dark chocolate, liquorice and a touch of soy sauce. Malty, roasted, vinous taste with dark chocolate, cacao, liquorice, soy sauce, oak wood, hints of red wine and a balanced cacao bitterness in the finish. Full body, with a certain sweetness. Really tasty and well balanced. Suspect that this was aged in wine barrels (possibly a separate entry, but I'll leave it here for now). Excellent stuff.

0,275l bottle at home shared with Sander. Vintage 2015. black color, no head. smells of oak, soy sauce, marzipan, nutty, earthy, nice smell, bit heavy on the soy sauce. full body, no carbonation, oily mouthfeel. tastes of oak, wood, bit peaty, soy sauce, marzipan, nutty, molasses. finishes lightly sweet with some roast and notes of oak, molasses and some soy saucish notes, some figs. pretty nice one, not overly special, quite heavy (but not boozy) and quite oily. not super complex, oak is rather noticeable.
