Description
Old Chimneys Brewery was started in 1995 by Alan Thomson, a Master Brewer who celebrated 40 years of brewing in 2017.

Located in Market Weston on the Norfolk/Suffolk border, Old Chimneys has achieved an enviable reputation for beer quality. The flagship brand,
Good King Henry Special Reserve, has for 8 years been the highest rated English beer on ratebeer.com

Alan ceased brewing at Market Weston in April 2019 to concentrate on collaborative brewing with top quality brewers in the UK and abroad,
starting with Grain (Norfolk), Northern Monk (Leeds) and Wylam (Newcastle).

The regular Good King Henry is now brewed under Alan’s supervision at Grain Brewery. The strength has been increased to 10% abv, and for the first time in 20 years it is available in KeyKeg as well as cask.

Changed to a client brewer as of 2019 on Brewver as Alan continues to brew elsewhere with the Old Chimneys name, mostly at Grain Brewery.

8/7/2020. Sample courtesy of the SHIG, cheers! Rating #11100. Pours mid to dark brown with a good size long lasting foamy off-white head. Nice looking pour. Aroma is nutty, toffee, malt and alcohol soaked dried fruits. Medium sweetness and light bitterness. Medium body, slight creamy texture, soft carbonation. Some developing bitterness and a light tart edge comes through. Liked it.

There may not be another pint at a pub, but this bottle was bought at the brewery and drank at my house: Poured a mahogany brown with thin finger creamy tan head. Aroma is huge rich malt, fruity, toffee. Taste is fermented fruit, caramel, rich malts, some bitterness in finish.

Bottle purchased at the brewery before it closed: Poured a mahogany brown almost black with a finger thick light brown head. Aroma is strong alcohol, nutty, rich malts, dark fruits. Taste is rich and nutty, sweet malts, light molasses or brown sugar. The taste is so much better than the nose.

Flesje Special edition 2014 gedeeld door Benzai na proeverijtje. Zwart, stroperig bier. Geur van vanille en smaak van vanille en rook. De rooksmaak blijft even hangen.

19/2/2020. Cask at the Dove Street Inn, Ipswich. Pours black with pretty much no head. Aroma of rich dark chocolate, roasted malt, more liquorice that the original, toffee, dried fruits, vanilla, coffee and carob pods. Medium sweetness and moderate to medium roasted bitterness. Full body, slick texture, almost flat carbonation. Tar and biscuit finish. Still very good.
