Description
Old Chimneys Brewery was started in 1995 by Alan Thomson, a Master Brewer who celebrated 40 years of brewing in 2017.

Located in Market Weston on the Norfolk/Suffolk border, Old Chimneys has achieved an enviable reputation for beer quality. The flagship brand,
Good King Henry Special Reserve, has for 8 years been the highest rated English beer on ratebeer.com

Alan ceased brewing at Market Weston in April 2019 to concentrate on collaborative brewing with top quality brewers in the UK and abroad,
starting with Grain (Norfolk), Northern Monk (Leeds) and Wylam (Newcastle).

The regular Good King Henry is now brewed under Alan’s supervision at Grain Brewery. The strength has been increased to 10% abv, and for the first time in 20 years it is available in KeyKeg as well as cask.

Changed to a client brewer as of 2019 on Brewver as Alan continues to brew elsewhere with the Old Chimneys name, mostly at Grain Brewery.

12/03/2012 275ml bottle, via trade (thanks fonefan!). Nerissima, densa, impenetrabile, schiuma color cappuccino, molto persistente. Grandissima birra. Chapeau!

275mL bottle - vintage 2009, brought back from the UK by the amazing Matts_Property, pours pitch black with zero head. Aroma of light oak barrels, roasted malt, vanilla, chocolate and a bit of wood / peat - quite subtle on the nose though. Flavour of light peat, dark dried fruits, oak, vanilla and sweetened chocolate - finishes with liqueur-coated dark fruits. Palate is full-bodied with not much notice of the ABV. The barrels are executed to perfection. Excellent, though seems a tad overrated.

ChrisOs Early December Tasting. Clear gold beer, good white head. Light dry palate. Mild lemon in the dry pale malt - hint of something ginger perhaps? Dry finish. Not bad.

Thanks a lot to madmitch for that one. The small bottle looks good, the beer in the glass deep black, small head. Heavy malty aroma. Starts very strong, deep malty, not too dry. Earthy-woody notes, background with hints of vanilla. Well balanced but intense finish of malt, wood, earth. Goes down burning. Definetly a beer to enjoy.

275 ml bottle thanks to Jason big time. I had the reserve version some years ago. Pours a wonderful black viscous color with a small beige head. A huge dark fruit nose with tobacco and leather. A sweet flavor with currants, more darker fruit, some caramel, light roast and slight sourness, dark cherries, very big and somehow very mellow. The palate really adds a ton with how viscous and oily it is. Very good. A bit akin to Expy but less robust and more mellow. Damn nice, I could drink this often, like twice a day!
