Description
Old Chimneys Brewery was started in 1995 by Alan Thomson, a Master Brewer who celebrated 40 years of brewing in 2017.
Located in Market Weston on the Norfolk/Suffolk border, Old Chimneys has achieved an enviable reputation for beer quality. The flagship brand,
Good King Henry Special Reserve, has for 8 years been the highest rated English beer on ratebeer.com
Alan ceased brewing at Market Weston in April 2019 to concentrate on collaborative brewing with top quality brewers in the UK and abroad,
starting with Grain (Norfolk), Northern Monk (Leeds) and Wylam (Newcastle).
The regular Good King Henry is now brewed under Alan’s supervision at Grain Brewery. The strength has been increased to 10% abv, and for the first time in 20 years it is available in KeyKeg as well as cask.
Changed to a client brewer as of 2019 on Brewver as Alan continues to brew elsewhere with the Old Chimneys name, mostly at Grain Brewery.

Bottle, courtesy of fonefan. It pours a dark reddish brown body and a small, beige head. The aroma has a good dash of coffee, as well as dried fruits, roasted malts and some licorice hints. A touch of alcohol too. A good dash of licorice in the mouth, with roasted malts, some alcohol and dried fruits. Full body, dry and slighlty warming. A really pleasant English style porter that could be enjoyed for quite some time. 110417

Bottle 50 cl. Courtesy of fonefan. Pours a dark brown with an orange hue and and a tiny and dissipating brownish head. Sweet roast and chocolate in the nose. Medium body, heavy licorice flavours and dark dried fruits with a slightly salty touch. A little roasty astringency in the finish. Pleasant alright. 170411

Bottle, thanks to generosity of tdtm82. 2008 Vintage. It pours opaque black with a thin dark tan head, The nose is charcoal, oak, leather, almond, marzipan, caramel, toffee and some dark berry. The taste is sesame seed, small amount of soy, charcoal, coconut, vanilla, some dark chocolate, sticky dark cherry, subtle wood notes, caramel and rich-roast coffee. It’s really, really smooth and the alcohol is well hidden. A very classy beer, not brash and sickeningly sweet like many imperial stouts. Mighty complex and just so well balanced. Looking forward to drinking this again in the future!
