22nd May 2010. ChrisOs ’Blue Ridge Mountains Of Virginia’ tasting! Clear dark brown beer. Light palate - a touch watery. Tangy dark malt and a whisper of smokiness. Finishes light and crisp. Comes over as a very light porter. Not bad.

Bottle dated 14 November 2006 shared by badnewsbeers. Inky, deep brown body with reddish highlights, very thin ring of beige carbonation. Deep, rich nose with burnt caramel, prune, molasses, and soy, with hints of alcohol, oak, and leather. Oaky, tannic body, dry, dusty, and soft, with pipe tobacco, licorice, and burnt caramel. Tastes like a cigar, and would go well with a cigar. My only complaint is the rather lifeless body that could have used a bit more carbonation. A classic bookish, candlelight beer.

Bottle at Chris O’s. Dark brown with a beige head. Dark fruits, licorice and herb aromas. Flavours of roasted malts, chocolate and raisins. Background hops and malts.

Bottled, thx to cgarvieux and Bullit. Dark color. Aroma of bourbon, roasted malt, chocolat. Rich and full taste with a palate that goes on and on. Simply delicious!

275ml bottle pours a totally opaque, light consuming black with very little beige head. Aroma is sweet, malty, molasses, smoke. Flavor is sweet, oats, vanilla, brown sugar, molasses. Finish is smooth, just a little alcohol with a lasting sweetness. Well balanced, drinking nicely.

Bottle. Dark, very dark. Aroma is port wine and plums. Sour, acidic taste with chocolate up front and coffee near the finish. Very nice.

Bottle from Bacchanalia, Cambridge, purchased & consumed 27-03-10 I seem to be following Hughie at the moment I think about 3-4 recent ratings including this have been after Bedford’s finest. Pours dark brown with a slight haze and a light beige head. Thre is a good aroma, its like that just being brewed smell, some yeast also noted. Malty, rustic and earthy with just a little smokiness popping up. A8 A4 F6 P3 Ov14 3.5

RBESG Sheffield 2009 Grand Tasting at the Harlequin. Vintage 2006. I was more than happy to bring 2 bottles to the Grand tasting since i had a few spare. Pitch black with no head at all. Wonderful aroma dominated by coffee, caramel, raisins, prunes and alcohol notes. Full bodied with roasted malt flavors, ripe fruit, some port. Very complex and tasty. I could drink this every day !

Right, the correct ambience and surroundings are nicely in place. The wife and littleun are away for the night. The lights are dimmed in my back bar, mellow tunes are permeating the room. The scene is set, the best beer in Britain deserves the utmost respect.Ok, let’s get this bastard open! Blacker than night pour with no head. My word, the nose from this one can be sniffed from the other side of the room! What an aroma! Dark chocolate, coffee, wood, very peaty, caramel, roasted malts, rose petals, banana, toffee. Quite an oily texture. Rich, warming flavours of burnt caramel, full on dark chocolate, coffee notes, toffee, caramel, quite vinous. The barrel aging shines through in this one like a thousand supernovas. Peaty, dry mouthfeel. Very pleasing, warming effect. Exceedingly complex brew. Decided to drink this ’young’ and am extremely impressed with the results. Huge alcohol burn in the finish, warms the throat and reaches right down into the recesses of the body gently massaging every conceivable orafice. Wonderful beer! Deserves it’s praise.
