Description
Wallace Brewing Company, 15-barrel microbrewery, began selling its beer in January 2009, in historic Wallace, Idaho.
A collaborative effort of Wallace’s Chase Sanborn, Dean Cooper, Rick Magnuson and the Zanettis, the brewery pays homage to the town’s notorious past, creating a brand of beers with mining and bordello-inspired monikers such as ‘Dirty Blonde’, ‘Jackleg Stout’, ‘RedLight Irish Red Ale’, and ‘Idaho Select Light Lager’ .
“We want to brew in the honest spirit of the mining heritage,” General Manager, Chase Sanborn said. “It’s not only the prevailing reputation of the town, but also one that can elevate the Wallace Brewing brand.

22oz bottle picked up at Yokes in Richland
Pours clear reddish/dark golden with a small off-white head, some lacing. Aroma of toasted malts, caramel and dark fruit, some smokiness. Taste is similar, toasted malts, caramel, ashy and fruit
I wasn’t expecting much on this one but I was pleasantly surprised.

Hazy amber color with small compact head. The aroma is mild, simple. It has a lean caramel profile, some malt flavor too, light residual sweetness, correctly bitter, with some hop resins; the final is just slightly nutty and with a hint of vegetables.
Decent IPA, clean, but it doesn’t fully deliver the required hop freshness.

Draft pour. Pours really dark with not much head. Strong malt forward aroma. Nutty, malty flavor with a little chocolate too. Not a bad beer at all. Enjoyed this.

Unsure of the previous disses against this, a near perfect lager. Medium golden body with thick, pillowy head. Pure grain aroma, sweet corn, cooked vegetables. Taste brings more grain flavor, slick mouthfeel, medium weight. A touch of hops bitterness on the tail end. Beats any of the commercial macrobrews hands down. Well done!

Bomber. Aroma is smoky, toasted marshmallow, roasted grain. Pours near black with red highlights; small beige head that falls fast. Taste is sweet and nice and roasty. Tastes like a toasted marshmallow. Creamy mouthfeel, medium body. For a beer commemorating the 1910 fire, this should’ve been a lot more smoky, I think. Nice Schwarz, though.

Bottle, $4.99 at Safeway in Butte, MT. Nice reddish amber pour with a. Creamy beige head. Bonus point for my plastic (clear) hotel room cup. Nose is sweet and malty, wheat, and apple cider. Malty taste is less sweet, sort of musty with peat. It does hint at Irish red ale as the label suggests... or is the batch variance that bad? Faint dirty floral hops. For what it is, it’s OK.

12 oz bottle thanks to Chris at Caddyshack. Aroma is bready malt, creamed corn. Pours pale pale yellow with a medium white sustaining head. Taste is lightly sweet with faint bitter dryness in the finish. Has a strange, almost vegetal character (bell peppers?)--it’s not a bad taste, just kind of odd in a lager not touting any added vegetables. Carbonation is fairly soft, body is thin. Not too bad, but it’s kind of strange.

Bottle: Pale golden/orange pour with a large fluffy beige head. Nose is a little soapy, grainy, and grassy. At first sip it is obviously flawed... dirty florals, grain, and that plastic/phenolic taste. Too bad; the first brew I’ve had from these guys and it turns out to be a drain pour.

Bomber poured into shaker. 7% ABV. Bought at Stein’s in Rathdrum, Idaho. Pours a slightly hazy golden with a medium-sized pillowy bleach-white head with nice retention; leaves some neat spidery lace from the top of the pour line. Hundreds (thousands?) of tiny bubbles float to the surface. Doesn’t look like your average IPA. Aroma is grapefruit, citrus powder drink, fresh buttered bread. Not much pine in there for a North Idaho brew, in my opinion. Taste is bitter, but it has a sugary-sweet flavor to balance it out. It isn’t like caramel malt-sweet, which would be typical for this style; it’s just sugary. Odd. It also has a chemical taste and there’s a flavor here that is reminiscent of wort. Again, odd. Carbonation is low and the mouthfeel is creamy; medium-bodied. This is a weird beer. Not bad, just weird.
