I usually get my brews from this brewery on the Quebec side, but this one I found at the LCBO. Quite an interesting beer. Pours an almost black colour with very minimal red highlights. The head is creamy, light brown, has great retention and leaves nice lacing. The nose has dark roasted malts, with some molasses and liquorice (anise). Quite herbal overall with some mild sourness. Pretty much the same for taste, with a little cocoa in the finish. The balance between these ingredients is pretty nice and different. Not one you could drink many in a row though.

From tap at the brewpub. Pours clear and golden red with a pink, creamy and dense head. Sweet and light citric raspberry aroma. Light sulphorish, not as sweet as expected. Rather dry, smooth fruity and crisp. Mild citric finish, light sulphorish. Jam like, just not sweet.

From tap at the brewpub. Pours hazy orange with a small white head. Aroma is toasted caramelish and light fruity. Phenolic, caramelish and light toasted malty. Subdued fruity and bitter to herbal. Bitter and herbal dry finish.

From tap at the brewpub. Pours cloudy dark brown with a small tan head. Aroma is roasted dark malty and towards breadish. Bitter, toffee malty and roasted towards breadish. Dark malty and slight bitter finish. Subdued sweetness.

From tap at the brewpub. Pours clear and golden yellow with a small white head. Aroma is spiced and grainy. Ginger. Citric, ginger soapy and spiced to herbal. Medium dry finish. Ginger, not my thing - this presents this somewhat different than other ginger flavoured beers - but still...

From tap at Saint Bock. Pours dark brown to black with a small tan head. Aroma is distinct star annis and dark roasted malty. Thick malty, absinth and star annis en masse. Dark malty and roasted, spiced to herbal. Thick malty and roasted to liqourice. Ends dry and dense liqourice.

Bottle: Poured alight clear orangey color ale with a small bubbly head with minimal retention and not much lacing. Aroma consists of artificial apple syrup with sweet notes. Taste is also dominated by sweet apple notes with artificial syrup notes and overly sweet finish. Body is light with fizzy carbonation. Not sure what market they are aiming at with this one but I have a hard time thinking they will succeed.
