Deep golden with small creamy head. Dry and caramelly. Notes of grass and toffee. Rather clean. Pretty good, but not overly complex.

Thick looking Belgium blond with a very constant frothy head. Very vineous aroma, watery and slightly fruity flavour. Overall an average Belgium blond ale.

Straw-coloured, crystal clear; huge thick white head, very stable. Faint bitter hopnose, flowery, grain. Very bitter head, concentrates the hopflavours very much - maybe some iron. Quite bitter pils, fine hopbitterness with a good maltbase with just some sweetness left. Light bodied, not fizzy. This is the proof that an industrial pilsener can be quite allright.

Big thick creamy head on top of a pale beer. Lots of carbonation. Spicey, estery. fruity aroma. The taste is sweet with a slight peppery flavor and the beer finished with a slight acidic bight, but otherwise fairly clean. Nice complexity. It's very good, but lacks a bit of complexity but I'd rather have a little less sweetness/acidity in favor of other of other flavors.

Humongous white foamy head. Moderately clear, bright yellow color. Aroma has some perfumey alcohol notes and some yeast in it, little bit of pepper. Tastes like the empirical belgian ale. Pronounced yeast flavor with some strong malt flavors mixed in with some citrus alcohol notes. Duvel’s flavor is like a crescendo, mild, soft and dry at the beginning, but really warming up, getting sweeter(though still retaining much of a tart flavor) and somewhat heavier as it goes down. Ends with some malt/grain notes, like a sourdough english muffin with marmelade. Maybe a bit too much carbonation in the bottle, could use some more complexity, and is prone to a bit too high of an astringency. Though it is definitely a good beer, and well constructed, in my opinion.

OK; Let's see if I can put myself above 25 years of prejudice(*). Colour: pale yellow-gold with greenish shine. Ridiculously huge white head, like a pressure-poured soft ice, going down lacey. Champagne-like bubbling. Grain, alcohol, dry sugarness in the nose. Garden weeds, the kind the neighbours' dog pissed on. Taste: sugar and bone-dry at first. Then it strenghtens itself, at the same time getting creamier and sexier. The finish and palate are what makes this a great beer. It is silken smooth, very velvety, nothing harsh. The alcohol is hidden - but not that much. There's detectable steel under this velvet. Aftertaste is bone-dry, white candi-sugar like, slightly grassy. It is a classic. It's more than OK. It's just not my style. (*) About the prejudice: I often consider Duvel the beer for those wanting to show off: 'see what I drink', but not really interested in taste. New rating for Duvel on tap : Very stable fine white collar with lace; clear Pale golden beer with the characteristic central column. Dry EU hops, white candy sugar, alcohol, pale malts. Rather sweet nose. Very dry, malty favour but with a fine hoppy surrounding. The fine but persistent carbonation lightens the beer, making it a superb Champenoise drink, waaaaay better than a lot of would-be sparkling wine-beers. Sports a spiciness that is hard to define. Warming up, some restsugars all the same. Dry, fine pearling, alcohol remains indeed totally hidden , ultra dangerous. I'm tempted to say that the draught version is even better than the ubiquitous bottle. Which surprises me, as I did not have the same impression from draught Orval. 6/4/8/4/15

More amber-orange as blond. Very abundant white to cream-coloured head, going down lacey. Nose of candi sugar, caramel, herbal. Light bitterish taste, and very grainy character at the same time. A bit tart - not hoppy. Whiff of mushroom/fungae. Light, but not watery mouthfeel. No stickyness or alcohol. Little aftertaste. This is a very delicate flavourprofile. My objection is that it misses hops. Give it a hopkick and you'll end with a Belgian equivalent of a nice bottle-conditioned best bitter.
