Description

Murky medium orange-brown body with abundant yeast sediment; medium dense buff head. Aroma of plum, apple, caramel and spice, sweet and bready. Rather thin body with a sharp alcohol bite, with plum and medicinal notes more typical of a Belgian Quad than a stout. Tasty but unrefined and rough, with a harsh, bitter finish.

Nice crisp hazy golden coloured body with a very large and loud tan head - nice! Aroma of bananas, strong metal, wheat, yeast, coriander seed and a touch of spice. Medium-bodied; Assertive effervescence with a sweet taste up front fading to a cherry and mild banana flavour, then fading to the more traditional yeast, wheat, spice and a touch of citrus. Aftertaste shows dry hops, bitter malt, a touch of metal and some light alcoholic tastes. Overall, a decent belgie, not my absolute favourite, but definitely not bad in any way! I sampled this 33 cL stubby bottle purchased from Half Time in Poughkeepsie, New York on 02-August-2009 sampled a bit later in the day in Upstate New York.

Sweetish, some caramel, vanilla, cardboard. Way too old.

Dark brown color, big head, reducing fast. Moderate Belgian aroma, with light chocolate. Good body strength, with a very good mix of caramel flavor, some chocolate, rubharb candies, fair sweetness, strong bitterness, alcohol bite. Solid and well balanced. Excellent.

(33cl bottle) Hazy, golden colour with a big and slightly off-white foamy head. Sweet, delicately malty aroma with a distinctive sharp spicy note, almost iodinic…must be the mustard seed. Sweet and slightly sourish tart flavour, medium body with a moderate carbonation. Malt-accented and subtle fruity taste with present spicy elements; quite sourish and tart finish. Reminds me of an infected Whisky malt lager (22.06.09).

The bottle looks good, the beer in the glass also. Woody-earthy aroma. Starts smoky and dusty, notes of dry bacon. Strong-malty finish, still dusty. Not really like an Imperial Stout, bis still good!

Location: 11.2 oz bottle from Gilly's, 6/13/09

Aroma: Nose is totally dominated by the mustard to the point of being way too much
Appearance: Nice amberish color, a large frothy head
Flavor: Taste was also overly mustard with some belgian ale flavors
Palate: Decent palate, an alright mouthfeel
Overall Impression: Just didn't work for me, too much mustard, if I hadn't have split this one it probably would have been a drain pour. I wouldn't suggest it, that is for sure! Give it ye ole pass unless you want to drink some liquid mustard...

Bottle. Total lack of carbonation is the first thing I notice. No hiss when the cap is taken off, no fizzy sounds during pour. This is a little disturbing, but I’m pressing on... Body is a slightly hazy brown. Aromas of brown sugar and other sweet and sugary stuff with a little bit of dates figs in terms of fruit. Flavor and mouthfeel are OK, but I was expecting quite a bit more. Water mixed with brown sugar would probably be just as good... especially if you threw in some port or something to give it some bite.
