Description
Not only was Dogfish Head Delaware’s first brewpub, it was the smallest commercial brewery in America. With our very first batches brewed on a system that was essentially three little kegs with propane burners underneath, we were brewing 12–gallon batches of beer for a whole restaurant. It proved to be more than a full time job and when the doors to the brewpub first opened, we brewed three times a day, five days a week! The benefit? Brewing on such a small system gave us the ability to try out a myriad of different recipes. Insert ‘off-centered ales for off-centered people.’ Our hunger for weird ingredients and venturing off the beaten path was just getting started.

Fast-forward to today and we’re still motivated by non-conformity. By spontaneity. By experimentation.

At every turn, our restless desire to create what hasn’t yet been imagined keeps us bringing new stories, new tastes, and new experiences to you.

Because we don’t jump on the bandwagon, we are the funky drummer.

Every day is an exploration. A thoughtful search through a crowded world, we search for that thing that makes us pause - that idea that excites us, the inspiration we can’t ignore. The journey can be unpredictable … but that’s what makes it kind of magical.

If you haven’t had the chance to taste Dogfish Head, find a beer, track down one of our spirits or visit one of our restaurants! You’ll quickly see why international beer writer Michael Jackson called Dogfish Head "America's most interesting and adventurous small brewery."

355ml bottle on the Celebrity Constellation in Livorno, Italy. Pours a cloudy orange-gold color with an off-white head and great retention. Very good lacing. Dank hops aroma. Dank hops flavor and bitter to match the nose, but not as bitter as I expected for 90 IBU. Sweeter than I expected too. And the 9.0% ABV is pretty well hidden. Medium body. Slick mouthfeel. Low carbonation. Dank yet subtle bitterness. Not Really a fan, but I don’t hate it like I thought I would.

Not positive where I got this beer, but it’s Dogfish Head, I have my expectations. 12 oz can opened up and tilting inside of a Buffalo Bayou tulip glass. The view is a shiny but dark gold-amber body topped with a fine and creamy head of parchment foam. Lots of carbonation. Yessir, I smell pine and that is not a bad thing. I have a drink, wow, where did that come from? Spruce tips must be spruce tips and there is plenty. It’s like I’m drinking a beer out of my cedar chest. Nice depth in the sensation experience. I can appreciate a change for change’s sake but this is a one and done.

Tap at Whole Foods..2026 version. Really big, deep, old school hop feel. Chewy malt and resinous hop combination. Quite a beast of a beer, perhaps better than ever. Classic stuff.

12 ounce can. Dark brown pour. Frothy tan head. Aroma of dark malt, coffee and Bakers chocolate. Flavor is more of the same. Dark roasted malt, coffee and a hint of chicory. Light to medium bodied. Not much depth or complexity. Dries out in the finish.

Bottle: Poured a dark amber color ale with a small off-white foamy head with good retention and some lacing. Aroma of caramel malt notes with some deep hoppy notes with some barrel notes clearly noticeable. Tate is also a mix of caramelized malt with some deep pungent hops notes with some nice Utopia barrel notes reminiscent of bourbon and cognac. Body is about average with good carbonation. Interesting mix of flavors and works better than expected.

Can. Pale clear yellow, quickly fading head. Fresh pale lager mild malt lemon nose. Yea, maybe a little citrus on the tongue, offers a more flavorful body character and maybe a tad more noble hops? Mostly this is a simple premium lager, even tho its rice and gluten free grain does add some personality, its better tasting than most gluten free beers I've tasted. Note here the label does not claim to be gluten free. Yes, more controlled hop flavor than most pale lagers after each swig but the mild noble bitterness fades rapidly after a few seconds. Overall a pretty decent lager and rather refreshing session for what it is. There, you have it.
