12 oz. bottle. Pours a cloudy, dark brown, with a thin, tan head. Immense butter toffee and coffee, lots of oak, with some notes of bitter orange peels, vanilla, and some earthy hops. Heavy body, sticky, and very hard. Overall, this is a nice, boozy, and relatively hoppy barley wine. Overly bitter, but not bad.

Bottle - Oak, caramel and molasses. Clear dark caramel with a rich beige head. Buttery pecan, oak and dark sugars. A bit burnt and boozy in the finish, but for this price I am not going to complain.

Bottle on second bus at RBWG. Pours amber brown with off white head. Nose and taste of bourbon, oak, caramel, toffee and vanilla. Medium body.

Bottle on the RBWG 2014 bus. Pours a clear amber with a grayish head that dissipates slowly to the edges. Aroma has sweet grains, vanilla and bourbon with a hint of hoppy bite. Flavor has a nice sweet grain and caramel with underlying bourbon and hoppy note.

The appearance is a brown/slightly dark orange body around the sides of the glass with a three finger foamy off-white head that rises and falls fairly quickly, clingy spider web lacing graces the sides
The smell is basically of booze, cherry and vanilla, and just a little bit of oak coming through as the beer warms.
The taste is sweet and tart through previously mentioned flavors, slight lingering graininess, a bit of toffee comes out as the beer warms, tart aftertaste and a dry finish.
The palate is about a medium, comes across semi-sessionable, and is adequately carbonated.
Overall, well, I’m not an old ale expert or fan, but it just seemed a bit tart than other old ales I’ve had. Would I have this again, hmmm .... unsure because I’d say this is a bit different than other old ales of what I’ve had.

12oz bottle. This had been sitting in my fridge for almost 5 months. It was time to finally open it. Poured a motor-oil color, like the consistency of my oil in this 10 degree weather we’re having here right now. Aroma is sweet bitter chocolates, some light bourbon notes. Flavor began as some real bitter, burnt chocolate notes, but settled as it warmed to a nice bitter +90% dark chocolate. Very smooth and the alcohol is really well masked for what it is. Quite a tasty brew.
