Description
Attic Brew Co. was borne out of years of beer consumption and small scale production. Oli and Sam met at university in Cardiff where their beer obsession began. Sam began brewing in his bedroom of their shared house and continued after graduating, moving back to Birmingham and setting up his home brewery in his attic.

In 2018, after they'd had the ridiculous idea to start a brewery, Oli left his job in London and moved to Birmingham. They took out a loan, rented a run down old industrial unit in Stirchley and bought a small brew kit that was older than they were. Several months of painting, building and, finally, brewing, allowed them to open the taproom doors on the 23rd November 2018.

Attic was greeted with an unbelievable show of support from local drinkers, who bought into their varied beer board and new take on the traditional local (editors note; we continue to be indebted to you all

6/2/2021. Bottle shared at the second Ipswich Lockdown 3.0 virtual bottle share. England vs Brazil. From the brewery direct. Pours slightly hazy golden with a frothy white head. Aroma is woody, raspberry, yeast, touch funky and tannic. Moderate sweetness and light tartness. A little watery. Enjoyed it.

440ml can. Dark ruby red to black colour and a discouraging thin pour for a stout. Small off-white head and some retention. Aroma is more promising as you have a multi layer of chocolate aromas, dark, milk and Belgium chocolate truffles, big nose of vanilla but not overpowering with the level of choc. Taste unfortunately starts off very thin and bland but then then the chocolate layers build up to a flavoursome finish which leave a nice aftertaste also. Body is obviously too light although the carbonation has a good fizz to give a different mouthfeel. I don't know if the adjuncts were expensive so they tried to make a light version? Either way it doesn't quite work, although potentially a premium version of this at a higher ABV could be one hell of a treat.

Can from the Beer Gonzo Advent Calendar box. Consumed at home Sunday 3rd January 2021 Watching Derry Girls on Netflix. We had Venison Burgers and Chips. Pours black with a tan head. Pours black with a tan head, chocolate, coffee and caramel noted though the barrel ageing presence is also evident. The flavour department is a similar story though a little dried fruit, such as raisins, dates, figs etc add to the mix. Good.

440ml crowler. Hazy yellow pale, white head, good lacing and retention. Aroma is earthy, herbs, light dank, grapefruit, touch of spice. Taste also has that earthiness but with a contrasting juicy grapefruit, pepper, moderate bitterness. Moderate body, slightly dank/wet mouthfeel, nice carbonation bite on the palate. Its interesting as I wasn't sure about the earthiness of it at first, but it grew on me the more I had. The hop freshness really does come through in the juiciness.

440ml can direct from the brewery. Pale hazy yellow, small white head, some retention. Aroma of lemon, grapefruit, slight herb note. Taste is the same, pleasant but a little one dimensional. Light to moderate body and moderate carbonation work fine. Nice but not the best from Attic Brew.

440ml can direct from the brewery. Pale yellow, white head, nice lacing. Floral earthiness, orange and lychee in the aroma. Taste is floral and soft fruits with passionfruit and grapefruit most notable. Light bodied and moderate carbonation. Modest bitterness. Its certainly light and easy drinking and the use of Azacca is interesting as its not a hop I have tasted much of. Very sessionable and I enjoyed it but I'm not convinced by this whole concept of a range of light bodied pales which await.

440ml can direct from the brewery. Murky amber with a small white head, nice retention. No huge aroma but getting malts, orange, resin. Flavour - Malty, caramel, yeasty, grapefruit, resin, quite dry, solid bitterness throughout. A bit of a hybrid beer with elements of a yeasty lager and West Coast IPA combined. It works quite well here.

440ml can direct from the brewery. Hazy pale yellow, small white head, nice lacing. Mango, passionfruit, hint of herbs. Taste has a light refreshing juiciness to it, semi-sweet with a moderate bitter finish. Body is light but not watery and average carbonation works well with this. Good table beer.
