So Monks Brewed.
What made monastic breweries different was that the monks brought patience, process and dedication to the practice of brewing. At Monkless, there are no monks, but this is our devotion. We practice patience to perfection in our brewing process, and focus exclusively on Belgian-style ales.

On tap at Monkless, pours a cloudy muddled orangey yellow with a small white head. Aroma brings out the Hallertau upfront, with citrus tanginess, candi sugar and some booze. Flavour is muddled, with earthy hops, some candi sugar, light booze. There's little here resembling an authentic tripel. It's alright as a miscellaneous strong ale, but not all that great.

On tap at Monkless, pours a hazy golden yellow with a small white head. Aroma brings out lots of floral notes, with subdued coriander and light peppercorn. Flavour is estery and chaotic, with coriander, peppercorn and booze. Somewhat of a fusel alcohol character. Rough but okay.

On tap at Monkless, pours a hazy golden yellow with a small white head. Aroma brings out light candi sugar, Belgian yeast and some fruity esters. Flavour is fairly estery and boozy, with candi sugar, booze, Belgian yeast and floral notes. Boozy and floral, with an estery finish. A bit rough but it's not bad.

Tons of Christmas spices. Dark brown pour with decent head and lacing. Kind of foul, doesn't come off well. Too much Christmas BS going on. Cinnamon, marzipan or something.

On tap at Loyal Legion, pours a clear chestnut brown with a small off-white head. Aroma reveals the Belgian yeast, with toasted chestnuts and candi sugar. Flavour is gently sweet and estery, with candi sugar, light esters and Belgian yeast. Not exactly authentic but it's reasonably crafted.

Can from Tavour. Pours translucent gold with a decent white head. Aroma of yeast/spice. Med body. Flavor is pale malt, yeast, spice, touch of coriander, hint of banana. Dry. Bitter. Went a bit gummy in the finish. Nice flavor.

Pour is a dark mahogany brown with a smallish white head. Aroma is brown sugar, tootsie rolls and treacle. Flavor is brown candi sugar with molasses and plumbs. This was a well made dubbel. Only knock is that it's a bit sweet but it's pretty much spot on and delicious.
I'm not going to lie, I had the lowest of expectations for this given the adjuncts and "quintuple" Belgian traditionalness. But it's delicious, raspberry and chocolate are light, some Belgian esters accompany it. Mad drinkable 12abv. Awesome stuff.

Smooth and easy drinking Belgian strong. Florals, fig, prune. Pours dark amber with good head. Light sweet finish. Easy drinking after the Maple Fred from the Wood I just had. Definitely more along my personal lines of appreciation. Tap at Horse Brass.
