Description
With a foundation in homebrewing in 1992, Paul Kavulak set about to experiment within a hobby that would prove both entertaining and, at times, refreshing. Over a period of roughly 13 years, and with the able assistance of his wife Kim, this activity led to the opening of the Nebraska Brewing Company’s brewpub in Shadow Lake Towne Center in Papillion, Nebraska, on November 17, 2007. A new production brewery and taproom were opened in January of 2014. Located on the south side of the Omaha Metro, but still a large part of the Omaha Craft Beer scene.

Bottle thanks to Markus. Pours a cloudy amber with a small off white head leaving sticky lacing. The aroma is a sour fruit. Thin mouthfeel with a sour fruit and dry finish. A very good sour ale from NBC.

Second rating for this stuff, woot! Not a 750mL, Eric is wrong. 22oz bomber shared by JohnF, Eric and I tried the same bottle. Color is thick, murky, amber-copper that glows. Aroma has a very nice strawberry aspect, cool. Then there is some sourness and a nice lactic quality. Flavor is not so discernible, no strawberries. Some generic sourness mostly. Did not get an cinnamon, fortunately for me since I am not a fan. The mouthfeel is very average.

22oz bomber shared by JohnF. Pours with a tan head and a black body. [Apparently, I could not find a better word that to say] Toasty aroma with thinning alcohol and meatiness as opposed to straight up smokiness. Probably just seems that way to me because of all the disparate aspects of the aroma. Flavor is thinned out woody alcohol and some light smoke. There is even a bit of mineral flavor. The barrel aging seems to hinder this beer.

750ml bottle from Wine and Cheese Place poured into a snifter. Pours black with about 2 fingers of dark tan head. Aroma of whiskey, vanilla, coco, coffee and a little black jelly bean. Taste is light bitter. Lots of coffee and whiskey with a good bit of dark chocolate and oak. Medium bodied with a somewhat thin texture. Soft carbonation and a very long finish. Overall, this beer is great. I wish I would have bought another one to age.

Bottle @ Armin’s, courtesy of foppa78. Thanks Mat! Slight gusher. Orangish brown appearance with a light brown head. Oaky/woody, caramel malty, earthy, dull hoppy, slightly oxidized nose. A little oxidized, a touch fruity, rich oaky, caramel/rye malty, toasty flavor. Definitely an interesting beer but past its prime.

Pours deep orange-tinged mahogany into a snifter. Mocha head with good retention recedes leaving scant sheets to coat surface. Sweet bubblegum, oak and whiskey aromas. Sweet, thick oak upfront turning to creamy banana flambe before the lasting warm, bitter oak finish.

Capped 750 from Wine & Cheese in Clayton, MO. Pours hazy orange gold with a creamy white head. Aromas of ripe light stone fruit and light spice. Med body. It is peppery, detectably apricot and somewhat barnyard. Rather delicate. The pepper builds with time.

Draft at Sugar Maple. Pitch black with a nice respectable beige-brown head. Roasty, smoky aroma. Mellow carbonation. Full of smoky tones. Slightly chalky. A quality product. Some alcohol beneath the watery malt body. Oily undertones, molasses. Burnt smoke tastes, like they roasted some smoked malt. Could benefit from a fuller, more carbonated mouthfeel. Unique.

seriously sweet and fruity, which is not necessarily a bad thing, just that I think it takes away from the yeasty dryness of a traditional saison. The apricot gives a little off taste in the finish which takes the taste value down a little. Interesting take but is a little too sweet for my tastes.
