500ml can from Supermercati DEM, in Civitavecchia, Italy. Pours a crystal clear mahogany color with an off-white head and good retention. Good lacing. Caramel malt and light alcohol aroma. The taste is similar to the aroma, with light caramel malt flavor followed by a boozy finish. Semi-slick texture. Not very smooth. Reminds me of a strong doppelbock. Medium-heavy body. Medium carbonation. Low bitterness. The 8.0% ABV is not hidden enough.

Bottle at the Purple Turtle, Reading. Black with a beige head. Chocolate, cough mixture, molasses, burnt toast, raisins, soy sauce. Generally sweetish but with something acrid in the finish (burning tired maybe?) giving a roasted bitterness. Some really nice stuff in here, but also some bits I didn't enjoy. Kept changing my mind as I drank it as to whether I liked it or not. On balance, there was probably more good than bad. An odd one though.

Can from Tesco's. Nose is sweet, tar, chocolate, hint of vanilla, roast. Taste is toast, roast, chocolate, hint of fudge, soy and savoury note in the finish.

Full slightly sticky Mouthfeel.

Much better than expected on first taste but there's a slightly astringent note that starts to dominate and there's an unpleasant almost metallic note that builds.

Bottle from Tesco, Danestone Aberdeen. It pours jet black with a deep tan head. The aroma is dark roasted malt, rich chocolate character, gateaux, burnt toast, umami, heady, intoxicating, dark fruits/berries, malt loaf abs molasses. The taste is firmly dry, bitter, charred, burnt toast, umami, liquorice allsorts, dark roasted malt, coffee grounds, rather fruity, blueberry, jammy, quite savoury, touch of marmite and punchy booze with a dry, charred finish. Medium body and moderate carbonation. Robust stuff. Works well.
