Paid $1.69 for a 12-oz single. Peach colored, with an inch-high fluffy white head. Smell: Bitter citrus and hops. Very nice! Grapefruity without being an IPA. Tastes more like carbonated grapefruit juice. Very nice! Not overly bitter. A very well rounded, good beer. As usual, I'm impressed with another Anderson Valley beer.

Paid $1.69 for a 12-oz single. Comparing this to other ambers, this beer takes the cake in appearance. Very pretty, unfiltered amber (has a couple floaties), with a gigantic head. So far, every beer I've had from Anderson Valley has had a gorgeous head- and this one is no exception. Sweet floral... soft, sweet, luscious... not overpowering, yet not lacking. This is nice. Very refreshing taste. Sweetness fills the mouth at first bite, finishing with a slightly bitter rose-hip tea flavor. Nice, refreshing, and EXTREMELY drinkable. A fantastic Amber/Red Ale!!!

I paid $1.69 for a 12-oz single. Holy smokes! I was away from the computer when I reviewed this beer on paper. I couldn't wait to get back here and post this one! Black- inch of fluffy, creamy looking brown head. Light, only when held up to a VERY high wattage bulb, will trickle through here. One gorgeous brew. Sweet chocolate scent. WOW! Just about knocks me on my ass it's so good! Perfectly balanced. Cold coffee-- the best (THE BEST, I say) cold coffee I've had- slight hints of chocolate and winter fruits linger within... wow. VERY smooth and creamy- a dream come true! OUTSTANDING beer. I wish I would have picked up more than a single... well, this beer alone is enough to make me go to the beer store tomorrow =)

Full 12 oz. Bottle, 14 Nov. ’05. As good an ESB as I’ve found, frankly, though I’ve probably not had that many. Golden body rendered a bit cloudy from floating particulates. In a Bitburger glass, it offers a thick, fluffy off-white head that helps concentrate a lot of nice hop flavor, Not sure what distinguishes this from an APA, per haps that there’s a sharp Northwestern hop profile, but it tends more towrd the English side, too; just tasty bitterness over a citrusy subnote. Malts and alcohol are nice and smooth in contrast to the hops. More western in character than, say, a Goose Honker’s Ale. Just great beer drinking pleasure thoughout the glass.Original rating 3.6, with sampler-sized taste from bottle, 12 Jan ’04. First of several bitters sampled at our homebrew club meeting, so my notes are not copious: Light brown color with thin head. Bitterness is more "straight," like a traditional bitter, with less of a hoppy nose, at least IMHO.

Hazy orange-tinted golden colour with a super-dense co2 injected white head. Aroma of super cascades-just like Hop Ottin'! Light to Medium-bodied; Sharp bloody taste of metal with a nice hoppy flavour with a missing malt background. Aftertaste clean-some citrus and hops show though, not much through! Overall, a decent APA, lacking comparing to the pleasant aroma though! I sampled this twelve ounce purchased from Chevy Chase Wine & Spirits in Washington, D.C. on 29-December-2003.

Poured a nice, clear red-brown, with at thin light tan head. Sprucey, grapefruity aroma on the pour. The first few sips were akin to biting into a pine twig- spicy, floral hops were dominant. Grapefruit notes as well. When the beer warmed, the malt complexity really developed, with woodiness and dark fruit competing with a touch of chocolate and a hint of spice. Started out like an IPA and finished like a nice Amber. This interesting combination worked for me.

Pitch black in colour with a dense thick brown head. Aroma of cherries, dark chocolate and some roasted malt. Medium-bodied; Watery mouthful-but still full of flavour. Dark chocolate, cherries and coffee nuances are felt throughout the taste. Aftertaste bland but showing some of the malty and 'dark' tastes. Overall, actually fairly respectable for the style, a bit watery, but shows tremendous flavour regardless. A nice find and a good beer to try! I shared this 65 cL bottle purchased at Chevy Chase Wine & Liquors in Washington with JonR888710. I sampled this one on 29-November-2003.

2003 Vintage:
Great amber colour with copper highlights and a thin dense off-white head. Aroma of caramel, strong malt and a bit of spices. Medium-bodied; Assertive hoppiness with a fair spicey/sweet flavour-very nice! Aftertaste similar to a hoppy scotch ale! Overall, fairly nice-definately worth trying! I bought this twelve ounce bottle from Norm's in Vienna, Virginia and sampled it on 21-November-2003.

(draught) Medium-strong tea colour; dark creamy head. Rather hoppy nose with a slight cookie smell as background. Tast is hoppy too, well dosed on enough crystal)like malts. Very hoppy - very USA - finish. Well bodied. Nice 'ESB', maybe a tad heavy on the USA hops.
