Tap at the Archer: Brown, lasting tan head.Rich malt nose.More yeast than malt in the taste, undesireable for the style. Slightly tinny. Not a great effort.

On draught 3/29/05 at Redbones. Light chill haze to the orange-amber body with an initially good-sized off-white head that recedes slowly to a ring. Aroma has a lightly dry, herbal-like hops, lightly fruity yeast, and some very dry, but authentic caramel notes. Aroma gets richer as it warms. Flavor begins with a good mix of light caramel/toffee and herbal/floral hops. The hops have little bitterness in them, as not much is needed to balance the mostly dry malt. There is a bit of breadiness to the body, a light brown bread type flavor, with a touch of yeast. I was ready to write this one off as well-made but unremarkeable, but then we get to the retronasal aspect, which is a flavorful green hops flavor that is not found while drinking the beer. Lightly leafy/juicy with a bit of mint, it is a wonderful flavor and I find myself enjoying the retronasal aspect more than the beer. Medium body, no thinning, moderate, natural carbonation. Anderson valey’s beers are just so well made.

2004 bottle. Pours a thick, brown and auburn body, lots of black coloring in there with a large, well-retained, oatmeal colored head. Plenty of sediment on the bottom. Good oaty, creamy, buttery, roasty aroma. Clean yeast and light hops freshness to cut the malt sweetness. Flavor is clean and roasty, with more oat grittiness and light fruitiness. Honey cream and light alpha-hops bitterness. The body really shines the brightest, I think. Smooth, low carbonation, almost a chalky texture from the low filtration and unpasteurised nature of the beer. Oats give a fabulous mouthfeel as always. Not too much of anything, well-balanced and well-made as always from these guys.

I have been pretty pleased with what I have had from this brewer so far so I jumped at the chance to try this one. Sampled from a 12 oz brown bottle this brew pours a hazy chestnut color with a medium sized foamy tan head that lingered and left some lacing. The aroma is faint but sweet and malty with a hint of vague spice. The flavor is a complex mix of toasted caramel, nut, burnt sugar, spice and toasted malt. There is a undertone here reminiscent of toasted marshmallow. The finish is rich roasted malt and caramel. A lovely beer overall and one I will be keeping an eye out for in the future.

I have been pretty fond of the products I have tried from this company, and as I was recently on an ESB kick I went out an got myself a bottle of this one. Sampled from a 12 oz brown bottle this beer poured a cloudy copper color with lots of floaters and a small yellow-tan head. The aroma is bitter and malty and a bit sharp. The flavor is smooth, lightly malty, bitter and had a dry hop finish.

Had this on tap at Bukowski’s in Cambridge, MA. Was not impressed with the $5.75 price tag for this when I got the bill. Ahem, anyways, a very strong aroma for a beer poured in to a shaker and served in a bar. Strong honey, herbal notes, citrus hops, hints of apricots and pears even. Looks similar to the pour on the picture to the left, deep gold with a big white head, mostly clear. Flavor starts and ends hoppy, with a dry pils-like malt mixed with just some plain old base malt. Still, well-constructed, no flaws, as usual with this brewery. A very straightforward APA. Medium body, crisp, hoppy, moderate tingly carbonation.

Tap @ The Yardhouse Pasadena,CA Grassy hops and bitter oranges in the aroma. Brownish amber (well it was kind of dark in that place), low creamy head. Fruity and grassy, plenty of earthy and spicy notes as well, peppery finish. Medium body. Long lasting bittering hop note afterwards.

Bottle. Ruby-Mahogony colored beer with a good creamy off-white head. Aroma of fruit - citrus, plum, cherries - sweet malt and spice. Flavor is spicey fruitiness - caramel, brown sugar, plum, raisin, nutmeg, and more and more vanilla as it warms. Good smooth and clean beer.

Crystal clear orange/light amber or copper coloured body with a dense-fast dying tan/peach head. Aroma of sugar, alcohol, hops, curacao, malt, yeast, bubble gum and wheat-a fine tripel. Full-bodied; Sweet taste up front with a good malt flavour and the alcoholic kick short behind. Aftertaste bitter from the alcohol and malt. Overall, a damn good tripel. Great to try & great from Anderson Valley! I sampled this 65 cL bottle purchased at Chevy Chase Wine & Liquors in Washington, D.C. on 09-October-2004 on the Eastern Shore of Virginia with my good friend Jon[R888710].

Bottled. Deep reddish golden. Peppery aroma with fruit banan and candy. Very sweet with a body that struggles to hide the sugar and alcohol. Some almonds in the finish.
