Description
The Obergärige Hausbrauerei Uerige (top-fermented craft brewery) is not a museum, but an exceedingly modern food business where a craft rich in centuries of tradition is carried out. It goes without saying that the Reinheitsgebot, or Purity Law dating from 1516, is still adhered to, because its results are good and lasting, relying, as it does, on nature as one of its main factors. Which is exactly what we do, too: our yummy droplet is made of nothing but water, barley, wheat malt, and our Uerige yeast.

Bottle at Prost! Murky light brown pour with small foamy head, poured into a teku. Aroma leans toward the traditional alt nuttiness, with some additional earthy, grassy notes. Taste also reveals more of the meadow notes, likely from the hops. Interesting take on the style, and buy no means hoppy by American standards.

Bottle from the brewery. Mild and slightly grainy beginning. Refreshing with a moderate grainy body. Not much bitterness there, the floralness is a bit far in the back. Sessional was with a grainy finish. Easy to drink but for an Uerige quite disappointing.

0.33 l bottle at 'What's Beef', best before April 2019. Clear, golden with a thin, frothy, almost stable, white head. Faint, slightly sweetish, a little grassy-spicy aroma of grains and some straw. Slightly sweet, minimally bitter, a bit grassy-spicy taste of grains, some straw and a touch of honey, followed by a short, moderately bitter, a bit grassy-spicy finish. Medium body, very smooth and slightly creamy mouthfeel, soft carbonation. Well-made Helles, highly quaffable, nothing exciting though.

Bottle from Londis, Knighton. Light brown, translucent with a thick beige head. Light malty aroma, bitter chocolate, a touch of forest floor and orange peel. Lovely balanced taste: there's an initial sweetness almost immediately challenged by an earthy hop. Gentle bitterness in the finish. Full body, heavily carbonated. Very good.

Thanks to Erzengel for that one! Bottle looks simple but good. Beer in the glass zippy, small head. Starts mild, malty, modest dry. Light wheaty notes. Mild sweetish background. Finish well balanced. Not bad.
