Description
The Obergärige Hausbrauerei Uerige (top-fermented craft brewery) is not a museum, but an exceedingly modern food business where a craft rich in centuries of tradition is carried out. It goes without saying that the Reinheitsgebot, or Purity Law dating from 1516, is still adhered to, because its results are good and lasting, relying, as it does, on nature as one of its main factors. Which is exactly what we do, too: our yummy droplet is made of nothing but water, barley, wheat malt, and our Uerige yeast.

330ml bottles from Vessel Beer Shop, Plymouth. Pours dark ruby brown with an off white head. Aroma: malty, caramel, candy sugar, dried fruits. Taste: moderate to heavy sweet, burnt toffee, raisins, figs. Medium body, average carbonation, Sweet warming finish. Good stuff. Like a baby barley wine, it's the #1 rated alt beer for a reason.

330ml swingtop bottle from Vessel Beer Shop, Plymouth. Pours clear amber brown with a dissipating white head. Aroma: malty, bread, earthy hops. Taste: moderate malty, light bitter, caramel, toffee, herbal hop, perhaps the merest hint of banana esters. Medium bodied, soft carb, dry slightly harsh finish. Kind of like an English ESB but I prefer that style over this.

$4.80 can, Wine Warehouse. Pours brown with a small, soft beige head. Aroma is smelly sweat, stinky cheese, caramel, mold. I dislike the aroma quite a bit. Flavor is much better than the aroma: caramel, brown leaves, earth, wood, toast, brown grass. Good flavor, horrendous nose. I'm also not a fan of stinky cheeses.

Bottle from a Cologne Christmas market - many thanks to Silke & Nima!
Pours dark brown with a red hue and small, foamy, tan head. The aroma contains caramel, malt, butterscotch, raisin, candy, red wine, apple and candied banana. Malty onset, medium to heavy caramel-like sweet, turning light hoppy & spicy bitter. Dry, spicy finish with a malty background and warming alcohol (red wine). Full body, syrupy texture, soft carbonation. Lovely stuff!

Thanks jinroh for sharing 8-9 year old bottle! Poured into a snifter showing medium amber with no head. The nose shows strong notes of baking bread and malt. The palate is medium bodied with barely any carbonation. Strong notes of baked bread and grainy malt with a light bitterness on the finish.

CBS vertical tasting @ Tim's. 8-9 years old vintage bottle from my Secret Santa, thank you Beerhunter111. Hazy brown pour, no real carbonation. Nose is mind blowing, sweet caramel blended together with some bitterness,. Figs dried plums and sugary dates. Taste is nicely cake-like, some sweet heat, rye spices, well blended and finishing with dry bitter, slick linger. Herbal. Really has aged nicely, great beer. Definitely the best altbier I have ever had.
