De Dolle Brouwers
Microbrewery
in Diksmuide,
West Flanders,
Belgium 🇧🇪
Associated Venue: De Dolle Brouwers
Established in 1980
We have recently found papers in the archives stating that the first building dates from 1835 AD. Once it was both a brewery and distillery. The founder died in 1882 and the brewery was sold to Alouis Costenoble. The family brewed for three generations until 1980 when the brewery stopped.
Beer brands included COQ PILS OUD BRUIN & COSMOS. In Esen there were six breweries (all small and part-time) and two distilleries. The actual brewer is doing historical research on West-Flanders breweries since 1900 AD, and has got the 'GOLDEN HAMMER' Trophy, a two yearly award for historic research on breweries. This was attributed by vzw 't Hamerken in Bruges on March 27, 2000 AD

Canned. Cloudy gold pour. Lots of white head. Floral notes, some honey, yeasty funk. Good.

Bottled. Pours a super dark, almost opaque brown. I liked it but could have used a bit more sweetness. Tastes almost wine-ey? MOre age? who knows.

33cl bottle from AbeerVinum, Rimini, Italy. Pours dark, almost black, with plenty of brown foam. Aroma is of licorice, toasty, less roasty instead. Body and carbonation are average. Taste is roasty bitter, with a hint of sweetness in the beginning. Final remains roasty.

330mL bottle at Lambik-O-Droom. Pours dark brown with a beige head. Dark toffee and sweet liquor barrels on the nose. Flavour has dark dried fruits, dark red wine, some dry wood. There's a tartness that I don't love. I think I prefer the regular version.

330mL bottle at Lambik-O-Droom. Pours murky brown with a beige head. Brown sugar, toffee, dry sugar, cinnamon, some spicy Belgian yeast. Fantastic.
Christmas in May. Thanks Fishtown Tea Mike!

330 ml bottle. Pours a dull copper color with light head. Beautiful aromas of florals, citrus, Belgian yeast, stoned fruit and toasted malts. Flavors follow same with additional floral honey and a bit of candi sugar. Absolutely beautiful and in perfect balance. The best young Still Nacht I have tried. And really well priced for such a special beer. Extra points…

Bottle, thanks Berntholer, small stable bubbly head, quite clear gold colour, vinous aroma with some wood a bit of sour malt and a hint of mildew, flavor of malt vinegar with a bit of minerals and almonds, honey and fruitiness creeping in over rometquite sour but not over the top. Nice.
