Description
The founder of the brewery was a doctor in medicine, Louis Nevejan.
We have recently found papers in the archives stating that the first building dates from 1835 AD. Once it was both a brewery and distillery. The founder died in 1882 and the brewery was sold to Alouis Costenoble. The family brewed for three generations until 1980 when the brewery stopped.
Beer brands included COQ PILS OUD BRUIN & COSMOS. In Esen there were six breweries (all small and part-time) and two distilleries. The actual brewer is doing historical research on West-Flanders breweries since 1900 AD, and has got the 'GOLDEN HAMMER' Trophy, a two yearly award for historic research on breweries. This was attributed by vzw 't Hamerken in Bruges on March 27, 2000 AD

Barrique 4. Slow creeper. Almost clean deep golden amber, a white head fades slowly from an inch. Aroma of grape pastry, bread, boot polish, honey, marzipan. Less sweet than normal Stille Nacht with a tart and woody vinous streak. Full bodied but nowhere near syrupy, fairly high carbonation. Deep autumnal honey, toast and almond flavours but also sunny fruity and doughy notes. Alarmingly easy to drink. A new top ten beer for me.

Bottle from Cork & Cask (2016) and House Of Trembling Madness (2025). Dense ruby body with a thin beige head. Good lacing. Aroma of cinnamon, apple pie, caramel and blueberry. Flavour of sour cherry, sweet red apple and underripe plum. Medium body with a frothy mouthfeel. Lively fizz. There’s an interesting sweet-and-sour vibe to this. It’s a fun beer that engages the brain, but it’s not one I’d return to regularly.

Bottle @ home. Unclear golden body under a big, foamy white head. Very typical Belgium blond/triple aroma, pale malt, spicy yeast, some esters, kinda fruity, white sugar and warming alcohol. Taste goes the same way, sweet malt, white sugar, spices, undefined fruit, low bitterness and warming alcohol. Mild, but distinct in flavor, sweet but not sticky, not too much alcohol – all over very balanced and balanced body as well. A fine version of a Belgium blonde.

Bottle from Cafe des Bains De Panne. Waiter thought it was the regular but then he opened it and only charged me the regular price. One of the best beers ive had. All the stille nacht fruit crystallised goodness with a depth of flavour ive seldom come across in a beer. Some wood presence but the vinuous depth of flavour toffee fruits sweetness Some brett biscuit flavour. Outstanding.

Bottle. Deep brown, a beige head is soon at the rim. Vinous aroma with chocolate, bread, dried and stewed fruit, vinegar, spices, the forest floor. The sourness and acidity that are only hints in normal Oerbier are more pronounced here but softened by oak and never sharp.
