Description
The founder of the brewery was a doctor in medicine, Louis Nevejan.

We have recently found papers in the archives stating that the first building dates from 1835 AD. Once it was both a brewery and distillery. The founder died in 1882 and the brewery was sold to Alouis Costenoble. The family brewed for three generations until 1980 when the brewery stopped.

Beer brands included COQ PILS OUD BRUIN & COSMOS. In Esen there were six breweries (all small and part-time) and two distilleries. The actual brewer is doing historical research on West-Flanders breweries since 1900 AD, and has got the 'GOLDEN HAMMER' Trophy, a two yearly award for historic research on breweries. This was attributed by vzw 't Hamerken in Bruges on March 27, 2000 AD

330 ml bottle. Pours a pale mahogany with full head. Aromas of wood, stewed fruit, fruity esters, sharp honey, and soft toasty malts. Flavors of oaky fruit, honey, candi sugar, Belgian yeast, and more soft toasty malts. Well carbonated and complex. Definitely a fruity vintage. Excellent. Looking forward to aging.

2023 bottle to tulip.
Appearance: dark golden color with a semi-quickly moving head, that seemed like it didn't want to stick around for any show, eh oh well, and obviously no lace
Aroma: bananas, Belgian spices, some dark toast, candied dark fruits, nuttty character and a little bit of vanilla
Flavor: wraps up all the prior noted scents sweetly, spicy and toasty; mild aftertaste of bananas, nuts and candied dark fruits
Texture: medium bodied but seems to be sliding off a bit and perhaps becoming closer to the light side, of sipping quality but even that seems to be coming close to being sessionable, brisk finish of nuts, dark fruits and Belgian spices
Overall: I would want this again, I just need to find a fresher bottle, kinda stinks that the texture showed some qualities of becoming fairly watery.

Half of a vertical comparison between Stille Nacht 2025 and Stille Nacht 1987 No head ot speak of, over red-brown, old cognac-like beer. Rich alcohol/fusels' nose, portwine, but also a whiff of fruit- and other acids, raisins. Sweet-sour, nutty, lactic acid, if quite fruity in character. Ripe banana, raisins. Thinned by aged and alcohol, undercarbonated, warming. Despite its age, still a really superior beer, impressive. Yhe vertical test proves unequivocally that the 1987 is an utterly other beer - and not only because it has only two thirds of the ABV. Hence, I do not agree that all the vintages are considered as batches of the same beer.

Half of a vertical comparison between Stille Nacht 2025 and Stille Nacht 1987 Good, dense white head over hazy orange-yellow beer. White candi sugar, yeast, green leaves, bookleaf. Dry, leafy, alcohol, even fusels if restrained. Dry bananapeel, more really ripe banana warming up, and even guaiacol appearing. Alcoholheat, some -thinning but still creamy, velvety texture. Well carbonated. Young Stille Nacht never really convinced me, but it has excellent aging potential. However, the vertical test proves unequivocally that the 1987 is an utterly other beer - and not only because it has only two thirds of the ABV. Hence, I do not agree that all the vintages are considered as batches of the same beer.

Bottle from Hopduvel. Hazy brown, stable, small, foamy, tan head. Aroma of ripe passion fruit & blue plum, red grape, forest fruit jam, wood, dessert wine, cherry, almond. Taste has sweetish cherry & blue plum and sour passion fruit & blackcurrant in an almondy, jam-like, tad caramelly malt body surrounded by funky lactic notes. Tart finish of cherry stone, grape skin, tannic wood effects continued by warming red wine-like alcohol. Medium body, oily texture, average carbonation. Outspoken yet balanced; noble character, delicious.
