Description
On the outskirts of Billund, just a stone's throw from the expansive Jutland heaths, lays Dansk Mjød. A traditional brewery which has brewed mead since 1994 on the basis of old recipes and with an uncompromising focus on quality and ingredients. It is the endless stories and myths about mead, which still inspire Dansk Mjød to create products that combine the ancient brew craft and tradition with a modern eye for quality and tastes.

The aroma is very sweet with strong notes of flowers, but also alcohol and honey. The color is orange and it has no head. The flavor is quite sweet, but not too much, and it has strong notes of honey but also flowers noticably elderberryflowers. The alcohol runs warming and tickling over the tongue.

Thanks to CaptainCougar for bringing this to the GA 14% gathering. The only thing I didn’t care for with this was the aroma. Rich copper color with no head. Legs on the sides of the glass. This was slick and oily as it delivered a coating of honey sweetness on the tongue. Spicy, fruity and very warming. If only the aroma were more of the honey and fruit and less of just strong alcohol.

An orange mead with no head. The aroma is dominated by honey but also with notes of rosehips and berries. The flavor is very sweet with strong accents of alcohol, honey, and rosehips. The alcohol runs over the tongue and burns slightly in the throat.
18 year old. Amber mead. The aroma has notes of honey, flowers, and caramel. The flavor if sweet with notes of honey, flowers, and alcohol, leading to a dry finish.

A brownish mead with no head. The aroma is very sweet with notes of honey and rosehips. The flavor is very sweet completely dominated by honey but with the alcohol setting in from the middle to the end - in the beginning just as the tast of alcohol, but then turning in to a warming feeling on the tongue to end almost like a burn on the tongue - very nice and it gives a lot of warmth on a cold summers night. The flavor also contains notes of flowers and rosehips. A great mead.

It’s my first Mjød, and it will not be easy to adapt my beer criteria...
Clean, deep yellow color, like the sun ->4
Mellow aroma, very light fruity and Madeira wine, but with something chemical; then this aroma turns out to be similar to heather and other herbs; probably it has lost some freshness, as the bottle has been opened some time ago... The aroma is deep but not fully convincing ->5
Syrupy alcohol, could be pleasant for a lover of sweet wines like me (Sauternes, Picolit, Vendanges tardives...), but still this chemical character... Anyway, it’s not only sweet, it’s a bit compensated by some acidity and bittered by the herbs; it would be better if fruitier ->6
Interesting final, mixing the sweetness with the heather ->4
