On the outskirts of Billund, just a stone's throw from the expansive Jutland heaths, lays Dansk Mjød. (Bottle) Clear deep golden color. Sweet honey and raissin scent, but also a lot of alcohol. Sweet honey scent. Though the aftertaste is alcohol and it’s quite warming, almost burning in the throat. Apparently they add hard spirits to this to stop the fermentation and keep some of the sweet stuff from the honey. I don’t think I appreciate the amount of alcohol that has been added. Rich mouthfeel.

Bottle (as Gl. Dansk Eng-Mjød, thx to papsoe for sharing) Copper-golden, unclear, oily pour with no head. Alcohol, honey, heather and a little spicyness in the aroma. The flavor is sweet, with honey, flowers, heather and some spices. Full, sweet mouthfeel. Alcohol, sugar and heather in the finish. Quite nice. (070510)

Drank out of a Viking horn in Plan B :) Spicy and flowery aroma. Taste of flowers, honey. Quite alcoholic, even for a Danish mead.

2001 Vintage. An extra dark brown mead with a pleasing ild honey aroma, with light orange notes. In mouth, a superb sensuous buckwheat honey, cloves. A mead for viking kings. Thanks to Inertiaboy, Jan. 2007.

Bottled. Clear, and very nice mahogany body. Aroma is pretty much honey and alcohol. The flavor is straight forward honey with too much alcohol.
