Description
19th century land-use plan of the area mentions a brewery owned by a certain Petronnella De Troch.
Even older records indicate that her father, Pieter De Troch, was running a brewery on the same site in the late 18th century. Petronnella married Egidius De Troch and in 1898 their son Louis took the family business over. Louis Married J. De Neve, and their son, also Louis, inherited the brewery and farm in 1936. The same Louis married M.L. Van den Moortel.
Their nephew Jos Raes and his wife M. Vanderhasselt took on the family tradition in 1974 and have been running this rare craft brewery ever since. In 2002, their son Pauwel Raes joined his parents into the family business.
In July 2012 Pauwel & his wife Kristel Schelfthout took over the brewery to continue the brewery tradition !

375ml bottle online from Etre Gourmet. 2019 bottle I think. Pours opaque golden with a few loose bubbles. Aroma: musty, barnyard, sour lemon, vinegar hints. Taste: moderate to heavy acetic, sour lemon, musty white grape, cider vinegar. Medium body. Light carbonation. Dry vinegar-y finish. Not what I was expecting. Interesting. Can't say I loved it

375 ml bottle into tulip glass, no bottle dating. Pours fairly crystal clear deep orange/amber, light red/copper color with a small dense light pink head with great retention, that reduces to a thin cap that lingers. Nice spotty soapy lacing clings on the glass, with a fair amount of streaming carbonation. Aromas of big juicy/tart/tangy red/black cherries, fruit skin/pits, lemon, lime, orange, peach, plum, pear, apricot, red/green apple, red grape/wine, oak, hay, straw, grass, candi sugar, wheat, and white bread; with light notes of pepper, leathery/musty/lacto funk, and yeast earthiness. Damn nice aromas with great balance and complexity of cherry juice, sugars, pale/wheat malts, and light-moderate fruity/funky/acidic yeast notes; with big strength. Taste of big juicy/tart/tangy red/black cherries, fruit skin/pits, lemon, lime, orange, peach, plum, pear, apricot, red/green apple, red grape/wine, oak, hay, straw, grass, candi sugar, wheat, and white bread; with light notes of pepper, leathery/musty/lacto funk, and yeast earthiness. Light-moderate fruity/lactic tartness, fruit tang; and light yeast/oak spiciness on the finish. Lingering notes of juicy/tart/tangy red/black cherries, fruit skin/pits, lemon, lime, orange, peach, plum, pear, apricot, red/green apple, red grape/wine, oak, hay, straw, grass, candi sugar, wheat, white bread, light pepper/leather/musty/lacto funk, and yeast earthiness on the finish for a while. Great complexity, robustness, and balance of cherry juice, sugars, pale/wheat malts, and light-moderate fruity/funky/acidic yeast flavors; with a great malt/sugar and tart/tangy fruit balance; with no cloying/puckering flavors after the finish. Light-moderate increasing dryness from lingering tart/tangy fruit and wild yeast notes. Medium carbonation, and medium-plus body; with a very smooth, creamy/grainy, fairly acidic/tangy, and lightly tannic balanced mouthfeel that is great. Zero warming alcohol as expected of 3.5%. Overall this is an excellent sweetened fruit lambic. All around great complexity, robustness, and balance of cherry juice, sugars, pale/wheat malts, and light-moderate fruity/funky/acidic yeast flavors; very smooth and refreshing to drink with the mellowly acidic/tangy/drying finish; great soft feel, and mellowly lactic. Great balance between juicy/jammy cherries, candi sugar, and pale/wheat malts; with solid Brett/Bacteria complexity. Not overly sweet/heavy from lingering dryness. A really enjoyable offering, and impressive style example. No complaints.

Vintage 2014.

Overall this is a delicious sweetened fruit lambic. All around nice complexity, robustness, and balance of peaches, fruity/fairly acidic/spicy yeast, oak barrels, sugars, and pale/wheat malt flavors; very smooth and easy to drink with the mellowly acidic/tangy/drying finish. Very flavorful for the ABV. Nicely juicy/jammy fruits with solid Brett/Bacteria presence; balanced sugars, and pale/wheat malts against acidity. Not overly sweet with lingering dryness. A very enjoyable offering, and well made style example. Not quite as sweet as most others I've had in this style of lambic, with solid acidity/tangy fruit presence; and more barnyard character than usual.
