Description
19th century land-use plan of the area mentions a brewery owned by a certain Petronnella De Troch.
Even older records indicate that her father, Pieter De Troch, was running a brewery on the same site in the late 18th century. Petronnella married Egidius De Troch and in 1898 their son Louis took the family business over. Louis Married J. De Neve, and their son, also Louis, inherited the brewery and farm in 1936. The same Louis married M.L. Van den Moortel.
Their nephew Jos Raes and his wife M. Vanderhasselt took on the family tradition in 1974 and have been running this rare craft brewery ever since. In 2002, their son Pauwel Raes joined his parents into the family business.
In July 2012 Pauwel & his wife Kristel Schelfthout took over the brewery to continue the brewery tradition !

375ml pours a clear, dark cherry red with some pink clumpy head. Nose is weird. Green vegetable, plastic, some stone fruit, strawberry. Flavor is better, cherry and strawberry, fruit roll up. Jammy finish. A touch thin. Weird. Probably on its last legs.

Clouded crimson red with a small pinkish head. Fresh cherries, cherry jam, funk, distant barnyard. Light to medium sweet, medium sour. Pretty simple. Pretty tasty. Perhaps the best pop kriek I’ve tried.

Women’s Euro beers 4/16 - Belgium 🇧🇪 The strawberry flavor is slightly rancid, and still cloyingly sweet. The bottle was absolutely coated top to bottom with sediment, loads more than a typical lambic. It tastes unnatural and frankly, not good.

Sample from jerrycan at Carnivale Brettanomyces 2025, John Versyck blending workshop. Didn't take many notes, just enjoyed good beers and good company. What I do remember: 2 years old. Compared with the Jonge Lambik (1 year old) it's more refrehing, softer / smoother, more complex, some more wood.

Draught from GRNYBBF. Sourness predominated and yeast, very interesting flavors here.

On tap at DHVL. Pours murky red with no head. Red cherries on the nose. Flavour is super acidic, very tart cherries. Hardly distinguishable from red wine vinegar.

On tap at DHVL, pours a hazy dark red, no head. Aroma has nose hair-stripping balsamic notes and some tart cherries further back. Flavour is full of balsamic, enamel-stripping cherry acidity, and perfume. Well that’s harsh and unpleasant. Too balsamic-y and acidic. Not good at all.

Bottle. Slightly unclear golden with a small white head. Nice aroma with cellar notes, wood, moderate fruity, quite mild but nice aroma. Very pleasant flavor, high drinkability, a nice balance between sweet and sour, fruity and wood like aroma, moderate funky as often common with ublended lambic. Fine body and long lasting aftertaste. Nice one.

Another`socaled lambic from Chapeau. Deep red pour, very small pink head. Aroma is all cherries, its alsmot artificial, like cough syrup, with a slight tiny touch of lambic funk. The flavour is surprsingly decent. I was expecting a super sweet, cloying cherry mess, like most of the other chapeau beers ive had, but wow, this isnt bad. A nice cherry flavour that isnt sloying, or too artificial, and its actually a little sour too, its leaving a nice sourness in the back of my throat, this is actually enjoyable!
