Description
In 1992, Paul Theakston took a daring leap into the unknown. As a fifth generation brewer of his family company, he chose to leave T&R Theakstons following its sale to a national brewery. Instead, he chose to champion independent brewing in Yorkshire and built his own brewery in the very same town, Masham. The brewhouse contains a mixture of tradition and innovation, using the Yorkshire Square Fermentation system which we hold dearly. Our original brewhouse was built from reclaimed equipment which we still use to this day.

(Cask at The Flying Horse, 20191015) The beer poured amber and clear. Its head was small, white and it lasted long. Aroma had fruitiness and toffee. Palate was medium bodied with low carbonation. Flavours were fruitiness, biscuits, toffee, malts and bitterness. Aftertaste was hoppy, malty and bitter. A nice hoppy brew with sweet notes.

Bottle. Morrison’s. Clear, deep chestnut brown. Fully lacing, lasting, messy, pale tan head. Looks good. Nose has toasted grain. Light roast coffee. Sweet, milky cocoa. Taste has a light, milky sweetness, and a decent amount of roast malt bitterness. Light body. Fine, crisp carbonation. Light bitter finish. Pretty decent, especially at Morrison’s prices.

[33cl can from Morrison’s, Bracknell.] An amber pour with a thick white head; aroma of fruit gums; creamy in the mouth with an odd combination of pineapple and toasted coconut flavours; and a touch of fruity bitterness to finish. Unusual.

330ml can from Angel's Cut, Darlington. Golden colour, foamy white head and aroma of marizpan, some banana, with pineapple & coconut flavourings. Taste is sweet, fruity, coconut, pineapple, with marizpan and citric, candy notes, plus some tangy bitterness. Light bodied, soft carbonation, sweet candy-like finish along with lingering bitter. Abit unbalanced and artificial

[50cl bottle from Tesco, Warfield.] A colar brown coloured pour with a tight tan head; gentle chocoalte malt aroma; rather sweet in the mouth at first with a milky body, but loosing sweetness later due to the deeply toasted malts adding bitterness and an earthy flavour. A rather good stout.
