About
The Rodenbach family established the brewery in 1821 in the West Flemish town of Roeselare. The beer owes it unique quality and masterful character to the oak casks in which it matures. Rodenbach is the archetypical Flemish red-brown ale from West Flanders. Recognised as a regional product, it is probably the most award-winning beer in the world.

Bottle...brandywine color, very little pale pink head...."things that make you go hmmmm"....more like errrrahhh....jolly, like a rancher, as I smell it in the rancher...pleases the senses and I haven’t even tasted it yet...fun palate effervescent and delish!!...a wonderful use of cherries

[At Chez Moeder Lambic] Dark red nearly brown beer with beige head. The sour aroma contains balsamico and prunes. Nice sweet sour flavor with hints of vinegar and berries. Nice complex beer that finishes with a delicious acid bite.

Bottle. Alc. 5.2% Clear amber red color with a small, fizzy, fair lacing, fully diminishing, beige head. Aroma is berry, vinegar, port, oak. Flavor is moderate sweet and light to moderate acidic, with a average duration. Body is light to medium, texture is watery to oily, carbonation is soft. (120907)

bottle - Pours deep red with a thin head. The aroma and flavor are both all about the cherries. It’s sweet, medium bodied, and full of cherries. So you won’t find complexity here, but I thought it had a decent, robust flavor that avoided alco-pop land.

(Draught at Akkurat, Stockholm, 14 Sep 2007) Dark reddish brown colour with frothy off-white head. Fruity, sourish, lactic nose with notes of dark fruit. A bit closed. Sourish, slightly fruity taste with dark fruit, wood and bitter-sweet notes of cowberries in a rather dry finish. Rather balanced. Nice beer but far from the Grand Cru.

(25 cl bottle, purchased at Ölbutikken, Copenhagen) BB 18 April, 2007. Labeled 5.2% ABV. Shady dark copper color, small tan head. Spicy and fruity scent, but mainly acidic and lactose. Also malty and raissin. Very apparent lactic sourness, some malt. Rather weak body, medium high co2. Low bitterness, though some biting into the sides of the toungue. Red wine aftertaste. Not one of my favourite beer styles, though the beer itself is not really bad either.

Re-rate 9/8/12: Bottle sample at a tasting at Ariel’s place. Thanks kerenmk. Nice deep red color. Musty aroma with cherries, cellar, vinous oak notes, malt and caramel. Sweetish flavor with light sour notes, a bit of oak, malt and some fruitiness. Medium-bodied. 7/4/6/3/13=3.3

[i]Bottle shared with Casey, Loz, Traci in a Belgian beer tasting night [/i] Poured sort of browny/red with an off white head. Aroma sour vinegar notes maybe some sour cherry. Tasted slightly sour with a hint of that cherryness rushing through again, also a sweetness there but quite clacky with a crab apple edge to finish proceedings off, very good beer.

Cloudy orange-brown-red body, medium off-white head. Super sweet, simplified candy version of Rodenbach, cut with modest sourness, but enough to make things interesting. The intense cherry flavors remind me of Pixie Stix. Different.
