Nice red coloured, medium sized pink head, sweet cherry nose. Sweet cherry aroma with lots of sugar. Slightly sour finish. Refreshing but very artificial brew.

Bottle shared with ozujsko at the Hopdevil in Zagreb Heh. Green bottle, american import. According to the commercial description, this is wickedly sour. Riiiiiiiight. Anyway, this poured a nice misty red colour on top of which sat a big pink thick head. The nose was all cherry syrup. The taste was light, sweetish with a definite cherry syrup/candy taste, some metallic hints and faint acidity. Had worse, and this probably the best non lambic fruit beer that I’ve ever had.

0.5L bottle. Amber color with fluffy-creamy tan head. Strong aroma of sourness and tart fruitiness. Tastes a lot like the aroma with mild sourness, strong tart grapes (wine like) and behind that is a faint sweet malt, very faint. I didn’t sense any oak aged notes. Big carbonation with nice lacing.

This is a downright strange beer. It might be like that simply because it was the first time I ever encountered sour ale. It tasted less like beer and more like a nice, high quality soda. I didn’t know how to feel about it at first, but right now I kind of wish I had one in my hands.

Bottle at Zuideterras, Antwerp 05-10-06. I hadn’t initially picked this Loz had, but after a couple of mouthfuls she decided that it really wasn’t her thing at all. Colour was reddy/brown, with a fruity quite sour almost vinegary like aroma, this beer also tasted quite sour and sharp I didn’t instantly warm to it but like with the Gueze’s after a few mouthfuls I began to appreciate it some more, certainly should try it again.

Bottle thanks to xproudfoot. Deep hazy red body, well-carbonated, thin off-white head. Tart puckering vinegar aroma with sour grapes, musty and potent; raspberry vinaigrette. Incredible flavor development; funky yeast notes and fermented grapes and raspberries pair with vinegar initially, followed by a puckering sourness richly backed by drying oak. The biting sourness cleanses the palate of the musty yeast notes, begging the next sip. The body is greatly enhanced by the tight, crisp carbonation that sharpens the sour notes and dissolves any lingering aftertastes. An amazing beer; truly one of the best I’ve sampled. Rivals my top beer (New Belgium La Folie); I give the latter a slight edge as my bottle had a tad less vinegar than this beer did, increasing drinkability while maintaining complexity. Eleven or 12 ounces of Rodenbach Grand Cru is enough for one sitting, but what a sitting it makes.

Draught Huge yellow head, very dense over hazy amber beer. Pungent but nice lactic acid nose (can have more true wine characteristics, even from specific wine grapes). No acetic acid. Soft woody, lactic, yoghurt-like flavour. Some restsugars apparent. Less smooth & sweet, deeper complexity in some of the foeders at the brewery (explanation being the beer pumped through sparklers on the handpump). Strawberry, cherry wood, milk chocolate. Some acidburn, medium bodied. In the aftertaste, more oakwood. I tasted several "foeders" at the brewery, which differ enormously, the handpump smoothens it. This is quite good, but, as in the UK, I would pass on the sprinkler.

Very hazy brown body with a large creamy light brown head. Nice sour aroma with some malty hints. Light fruit flavor on a very gentle sour background, light oaked flavor in the end.

Bottled. Dark brown with a reddish hue and a small beige head. Sweet and acidic aroma with some cellar. The flavor is much the same, but with berries. Medium body with some astringency. Feels a bit fizzy in the mouth, but not in a negative way. Long sour finish. It was pleasant with my mussels. Rating: 6-3-6-4-13-3.2. 060714

There’s also a sweetish impression, even though it’s quite dry. Vinous and vinegar-ish flavor with cherries, blackberry, prune notes, hints of cellar and lemon. There’s also a sugary sweet touch to the beer, maybe a bit more than I would prefer. Overall a very nice beer, packed in an ugly labelled bottle. 091103

Small beige head quickly disappears. Deep dark red body like slightly watery red wine, with some ongoing carbonation. Deep, acidic vinous aroma of wild berries, fruit, and wine, with a sharpish edge. Deep, intensely acidic taste, again of wild berries, wine, and wood. Sharp aftertaste. Excellent! A unique beer. (0.33l bottle.)
