Description
In 2005, Leonardo Di Vicenzo opened Birra del Borgo’s first brewery, Collerosso, in Borgorose, a small village located in the Valle del Salto, in province of Rieti, on the border between Lazio and Abruzzo. 2009 marked a watershed for Birra del Borgo with the opening of our new brewery. Moving out of our one-room space at Collerosso and into a modernized facility, our new brewery became the heartbeat of the company and cleared a way to fulfilling our brewing ambitions.

In 2015 Collerosso brewery begins new life. We rethought it entirely to pursue a new journey of research and discovery: Spontaneous Fermentation. Allowing wild yeast in the air to ferment the beer directly in the Coolship, marked an important milestone in our journey. Indeed, Collerosso and these beers represent our feeling to always change, to always strive to discover more. We are always restless and eager to see things from a different, unique, new perspective.

In 2016 Birra del Borgo was bought for 100% by AB InBev.

(Bottle, Monk’s Café, Stockholm, 6 May 2008) Dark amber colour with foamy, beige head. Fruity, hoppy, floral nose with orange peel and grapefruit. Fruity, hoppy taste with notes of orange peel, grapefruit, black-currant, pine needles and generous amounts of citrussy, floral hops in the finish. Medium body, leaning in the thin direction. Great hop character. Lovely beer.

Bottled at Monk’s Café, Stockholm. Cloudy mahogany colour, small beige head. Fruity and nutty, medium to full bodied with soft mouthfeel. Mildly coffeeish with notes of caramel and tobacco. Light ashy salty bitterness. It’s greatest assetts are its soft, creamy mouthfeel and broad spectre of flavours.

Bottle, 75cl. It pours a hazy, orange body with loads of small floaties and an off-white head reminiscent of that of a casked bitter, only a bit bigger. The aroma has a slight sour touch blending in between grapefruit, pine and a malty background. Not very pronounced aroma. Sweet and bitter flavor with grapefruit being the most dominant, but also pinecones, grass and some malt is present. Too thin body. Medium duration on the finish, with hoppy flavors dominating, grapefruit and pinecones, quite bitter. It’s a refreshing beer, and the thin body makes it very easy to drink. A bit boring though.
