Description
In 2005, Leonardo Di Vicenzo opened Birra del Borgo’s first brewery, Collerosso, in Borgorose, a small village located in the Valle del Salto, in province of Rieti, on the border between Lazio and Abruzzo. 2009 marked a watershed for Birra del Borgo with the opening of our new brewery. Moving out of our one-room space at Collerosso and into a modernized facility, our new brewery became the heartbeat of the company and cleared a way to fulfilling our brewing ambitions.
In 2015 Collerosso brewery begins new life. We rethought it entirely to pursue a new journey of research and discovery: Spontaneous Fermentation. Allowing wild yeast in the air to ferment the beer directly in the Coolship, marked an important milestone in our journey. Indeed, Collerosso and these beers represent our feeling to always change, to always strive to discover more. We are always restless and eager to see things from a different, unique, new perspective.
In 2016 Birra del Borgo was bought for 100% by AB InBev.

From tap at Ma Che Siete Venuti a Fà. Pours hazy orange with a white had. Solid grapy fruity aroma with a note of a dry malt base too. Flavour follows this grape fruity hops flavour. Quite dry and with a medium to dry caramel malt base. Dry hoppy finish.

Hazy orange with a fluffy off-white head. Spicy aroma with coriander and a pine-ish herbal thing that I assume is the gentian. Sweet and spicy flavour.

75 cl bottle@fonefan/Brugmansia’s Cnudde tasting. Pours slight cloudy orange with a dense off-white head. Spiced aroma with a light caramel malt note. Flavour is spiced, gentian I assume, and somewhat herbal to acidic. Ends with a persisting spiced flavour. Too strangely spiced for my liking.

Bottled. A gusher when opened. A murky orange beer with lots of sediment floating around under a lazing tan head with small specks of sediment. The aroma is sweet with strong notes of oranges and caramel, but also a light plastic note. The flavor is sweet malty with notes of spices, caramel, and oranges, leading to a dry spicy finish, the spices include cinnamon and cloves. Drunk a month prior to the best before date - should probably have a shorter best before date on it, since I think the gushing is due to too much refermentation in the bottle.

Bottle @ redlight. Big herbal aroma with hints of dark calamata olives, slightly vegetal with hints of canned artichoke hearts, thyme and lemon verbena. Cloudy yellow color. Mildly tart. Clean herbal finish. Mild spiciness. Smooth and zesty, very refreshing, a great warm weather beer. Quite nice and unique.
