In 2005, Leonardo Di Vicenzo opened Birra del Borgo’s first brewery, Collerosso, in Borgorose, a small village located in the Valle del Salto, in province of Rieti, on the border between Lazio and Abruzzo. 2009 marked a watershed for Birra del Borgo with the opening of our new brewery. Moving out of our one-room space at Collerosso and into a modernized facility, our new brewery became the heartbeat of the company and cleared a way to fulfilling our brewing ambitions.
In 2015 Collerosso brewery begins new life. We rethought it entirely to pursue a new journey of research and discovery: Spontaneous Fermentation. Allowing wild yeast in the air to ferment the beer directly in the Coolship, marked an important milestone in our journey. Indeed, Collerosso and these beers represent our feeling to always change, to always strive to discover more. We are always restless and eager to see things from a different, unique, new perspective.
In 2016 Birra del Borgo was bought for 100% by AB InBev.

Bottle at Bruxellensis 2008, Brussels, Belgium Lightly hazy, amber body. Off-white, frothy head. Aroma of hops, flowers. Heavily bitter, lightly sweet flavour. Nice flavour of citrus, american hops. Superb beer, very hoppy with a great balance and some complexity.

Marks for Appearance are an average, as beer was sampled in weak artificial light after dark. Very citric nose, and obviously Belgian yeast (whether it is really Orval yeast, or something collected from a bottle...), very determinative of the character. Citric, slight Brett-notes, wet cloth flavour, some light malts. Quite refreshing, medium bodied, quite slick. Interesting beer. It’s certainly no Orval, so no sacrilege done. Quite drinkable.

Small but persistent off-white head over orange-amber beer. Very spicy nose, cardamom, lavender, soapy. Fruity & perfumey esters, alcohol & higher alcohols; spicy finish. Some solvent, ginger & lavender. Medium bodied, very slick, near oily. Not my cup of beer. I suppose some people would quite like it, but me, I keep missing the point in the Re-Ale range craze.

Bottle 75cl.Clear medium red brown color with a average, frothy, good lacing, mostly diminishing, beige head. Aroma is moderate malty, roasted, coffee, fruity, tobaco, acidic notes, also some date notes. Flavor is moderate sweet, light acidic and moderate bitter with a average duration. Body is medium to light, texture is oily to watery, carbonation is soft. (270608)

Bottle, 4.2%. Slow gusher. Yeasty and tart aroma. Hazy amber colour. The flavour is quite sweet with some tartness. As usual, I am not sure it is intended, but it tastes all right. High carbonation.

bottle at home from GBBF ... deep deep brown... malt nose with a tinge of sourness ... little woody ... little toffee ... deep fruit amd unfortunatly just a tiny sour of tinge. 3.2 Bottle at cropredy ... deep solid brown .. dark malts ... roast chocolate ovaltine nose ... dark sweet chocolate roast ... wonderful soft complex chocolate malst. 4.0

Bottled. A slightly hazy amber beer with a huge dense creamy light tan head. The aroma is sweet malty with strong notes of fruit, peaches and oranges, as well as a light spicy note, as well as hints of hops. The flavor is very sweet with notes of malt, strong notes of fruit to start off, especially peaches, but then a very strong note of spices grows, the spices include cinnamon, cloves, and coriander. The spicy note continues to grow all the way to the finish and makes the finish very dry and spicy.

Bottled. Hazy golden colour, fruity and yeasty. Aroma is fruits, sweet alcohol and vanilla. Flavour is pleasantly mixed fruits, yeast, vanilla and some woode notes. Also mild notes of spices and alcohol.
