Description
In 2011 we Howling Hops reopened the Cock tavern on Mare street as Hackney’s first brewpub. The brewery expanded a few times but still couldn’t really keep up with the demand. So in 2015 the brewery moved to the current address in the heart of Hackney Wick.
Howling Hops brew bold, modern, uncompromised, flavoursome, generously hopped beers. All our beers are unfiltered, unpasteurised and suitable for vegans. We still stick to our early philosophy of ‘make some interesting beer’, although not every one is different these days. We have a core of 4 beers that we brew regularly, a couple of beers we brew seasonally and every 3 or 4 weeks we brew a different single batch beer.

Good cask offering. Nice lite piney hop character, a little candied citrus peel, lean pale malt backdrop. Pretty good condition for the cask. Modest grassy bitter aftertaste. Tidy overall.

Draught at Crafty"s, Darlington. Pale golden colour, white foam head leaving lacing and aroma of tropical fruit, zesty citrus, hops. Taste is pale malt, grain, juicy fruits, tropical, lemony citrus, zest, pine with hop bitterness. Light bodied, soft carbonation, drying citrusy hoppy bitter finish. Nicely drinkable.

Can. A mild haze on this orange gold beer, small bubbly pale cream colour head. Airy palate, decent fine carbonation on the back end. Light pale malts but never thin and providing a pleasant light creamy sweetness. The trio of hops produce a pleasant result. Soft cooling pine. Obvious Krush tropical goodness. There is a distinct soft lime streak which I believe can only come from the rarely seen Triumph hop. Trace of candy fruits. Citra does what it does best these days and back fills well. Light finish. A light and pleasant brew. I do wish Howling Hops were more readily available, I'm rarely disappointed with their brews.

Cask at EBF Easter 26. Hazy-opaque gold. Thin bubbly white head. Aroma has light fruit with a grainy edge. Flavourwise it has tart intro followed by soft fruit. Light. Thin. Soft-fizzy carbonation. Long dry somewhat astringent finish. Nice enough.

Cask at the Southampton Arms, London on 2nd April 2026. Opaque yellow amber with shallow yet dense off-white foam and full lacing. Tropical fruits dominate the aroma profile as they do the liquid pass. Tangy citrus late on, and a blend of both for a Haribo finish. Full body and a zingy mouthfeel.

Cask at the Southampton Arms, London on 17th March 2026. Thickly hazy amber with shallow off-white foam affording pattern lacing. Sweet tropical and ripe berry fruits in aroma. A few spices. Citrusy and quite acidic in-mouth with lemon juice and just the suggestion of vinegar. A dairy transient of ‘school milk’. Finish is citrusy and pungent. Smooth mouthfeel and a medium body.
