Description
In 2003, Tony Traen, took over Kapel van Viven from Willy De Lobel (the founder of Kapel van Viven) Since then, chapel of Viven has undergone several changes: a brand new look, an improved recipe for the Monastery of Viven and a new name. Chapel and Monastry of Viven were baptized Viven Blond and Viven Brown.
The idea to apply our Flemish brewing art to non-Flemish beers haunted Tony and together with Dirk Naudts (owner of the Proef brewery), he developed the recipes of the promising Viven Ale, Viven Porter, Viven Imperial IPA and Viven Master IPA. These exceptional beers, that would truly tempt any beer connoisseur, have been successfully launched onto the beer market in 2010, making them accessible to a wider audience of beer lovers.
For Tony and Krystle Traen, the driving forces behind the brewery, Viven has been a passion for over twenty years.
Krystle, one of the few female brewers in Belgium, is responsible for the taste of the different beers in the range. She composes the recipes and brews the first test batches in the kettles in Damme. When a new beer is tasted and approved by Krystle, the production moves to the Proefbrouwerij in Lochristi to be able to brew higher volumes. Tony is responsible for the administration, transport and sales. He started the Viven story, more than twenty years ago, in the little town of Vivenkapelle and turned it into an international brand.

29/05/2013 Bir&Fud Bottega (330ml bottle). Ambrata, limpida, filtrata, schiuma bianca abbondante, discretamente persistente. Al naso sentori agrumati, pinosi, di pesca e resina, frutta matura, buona presenza di malto. In bocca delude un poβ, senza dubbio equilibrata, ma manca di quello spunto che ci si sarebbe aspettati con un naso del genere. Corpo medio, carbonazione media. Ok.

Bottle. An unclear, dark golden to amber beer topped by a dense, off-white head of finger-thick size. Lots of tropical fruits in the aroma, peaches and orange peel, with a little malty sweetness. Alcohol and grass too. Sweet, bitter and fruity flavor with a faint peppery hint. Lasting bitter and fruity finish. Overall, quite tasteful and pleasant. Would like a bit more sting though, all the way. 130516

Bottle. It pours a dark brown body, unclear, and topped by a creamy, minimal sized light beige head. Rather smoked aroma, ham and some old bonfire. Some cocoa and forest. Creamy, soft mouthfeel and semi-dry. Some alcohol warmth too. Ham, bonfire hints and cocoa in the flavor, nice bitterness too. Lasting roasted and bitter finish. Some yeasty hints. Certainly not a beer Iβd expect from Belgium, but itβs pleasant indeed. 130516

Bottle. Nice lacings left as the creamy off-white head sinks with the constantly lower level of unlcear, dark amber beer. Prunes, dark sugar, some grassy, peppery hops, and some pastry hints. Prunes, dark sugar, grassy hops and some spiced notes. Full body, very dry on the palate, with soft and pleasant carbonation. Bitter, yet malty sweet finish. A quite pleasant one, but it sort of lacks the balance one normally expect from Belgian beer. 130516
