Cask (Railway Arms, Alton) - Dark brown with red tinges and a light tan head. Lightly roasted aroma with some hints of chocolate and blackcurrant. The taste is lightly roasted witrh some hoppy notes complemented by coffee, blackcurrant and chocolate.

Hazy copper color. It has a malty and lightly fruity aroma; flavor of malt and caramel, with some residual sweetness, and good bitterness level. First impression confirmed.

Light amber color, thin head. The aroma is light. It has a delicate, pleasant flavor, with caramel, lightly flowery and grassy; very light metallic touch too. Correct bitterness. A bit of originality, but quite simple.

[Cask at the Nags Head, Reading.] Amber with a thin white head; leafy hop aroma; light spicy hop flavours, with some biscuit and fruity malts; dry spicy hop finish. Well balanced.

Cask at Charlies Bar, Copenhagen. I had this both in the fall of 2007 and 2008. A slightly hazy golden beer with a thin beige head. The aroma is very lightly malty. The flavor though is very sweet and very fruity, combined with light notes of alcohol and lemon, making it a bit soda like - and hence quite dangerous when weighing in at 6% ABV.

From cask at Market Porter. Pours slight cloudy deep orange golden with a diminished white head. Light spiced and hoppy aroma. Flavour is spiced hoppy and bitter towards light acidic. Bitter and towards acidic into the finish. 6-3-7-3-13=3.2 From cask at the sir John Moor. Pours clear and golden orange with a creamy and off-white head. Mild caramel malty aroma with a light hops note. Slight earthy malty and simple bittered with a light dryness. Ends dry malty with asubdued bitterness and no sweetness at all. Light fruity note into the finish. Dry and bitter into the far finish.6-3-6-3-13=3.1

Cask at the Penny Black, JDW, Bicester, Oxon, Pours light amber with good clarity, white head and looks in tip op condition having only just gone on. Tons of hoppy citrussness, quite bitter, a sheen of sweetness, nice and juicy, crisp and drying at end.

Liquid autumn color. Apricot nose. Body is med, fairly malty with apricots and apples. Straight forward all the way.

Overall champion beer of Britain 08 – and winner of the Bitter category. Draught, tutored tasting with Roger Protz at GBBF. Clear, copper-bronze body. Missing head. Malty to the nose. Bitter spicy hops in flavour balanced by biscuit malts. Dry bitter tail. Maybe slightly over the average of bitter British ales (06.08.208).
