Description
Harvey's is the oldest independent Brewery in Sussex. Founded by John Harvey in 1790 it still remains a privately owned family business, with the eighth generation currently working there. We pride ourselves on the craft of our brewing, environmental credentials, local distribution, local charitable activities and loyal staff. Widely known for our Best Bitter, our beers and pubs can be found in and around the South East. As a Regional Brewer we tend not distribute further than 60 miles from the brewery premises, however our beers can be purchased via our online shop shop.harveys.org.uk and at our Brewery Shop in Lewes. Bottle from the Royal Oak. Rich, estery, hoppy nose. Apricots, orange, pear. Definitely a Belgian-like yeast character. Very spicy. Caramel. Deep orange to amber, slightly hazy, with lace. Flavor is caramel and honey malts, biscuits, fruit, marmalade, light vanilla. Grassy. Herbal, bitter hop finish. Full, silky body. Lovely stuff.

Bottom from the Royal Oak. Had this on cask there in 2011 and it was favorite beer that day. Now gotta tick the bottled version. It's the sole Harvey's beer in the MJ 500. Hoppy, fruity nose. Orange, grapefruit, minerals, caramel malt, toast, estery yeast character. Flavor almost seems Belgian in its esters. Stone fruits, a touch of banana, orange and grapefruit from the hops, earthy, toasty malts, light caramel sweetness. Finish is dry and bitter. Much more estery than usual for the style. Classic British hops, rich malt. I must say that I prefer the Sussex Best Bitter, but this is also a classic that has stood the test of time.

Huge thanks to Erzengel for that one! Bottle looks good. Beer in the glass with a nice small head. Starts mild but not washy, spicy, flowery, light fruity touch of lemon, some grapes. Mild bitterness. Finish well balanced, mild malty-spicy. Nice!

0,5 l bottle from Erzengel. Thanks a lot! Clear golden in the glass, small one finger white head. Low malty floral on the nose. Taste starts with a floral hop shot, increasing malty, pale fruity. Wet woody and dry malty in the second part. Very low carbonated. Long lasting aftertaste. Nice one.

GBBF Day 2. Cask. Almost clear rich gold beer, small bubbly pale cream colour head. Smooth palate, mildly dry, modest fine carbonation. Light sweet malts. Fairly rich fruits, kinda candied tangerine. Some floral hop before a semi dry finish. No fucking eggs! Hurrah! Tidy beer.
