Draft. Rich amber beer with a nice cream colored head. Malt, yeast, caramel, fruit, slight tart aroma. Big fruity, caramel, spice, yeast flavor. Medium-plus bodied. Lingering caramel, fruit, yeast, malt. Would have thought this might have been barrel aged from tasting it.

Draft. Rich amber beer with an off-white head. Yeasty, spicy, malty aroma. Rich caramel malt, yeast, and spice flavor. Medium bodied. Lingering rich malt, spice, light yeast. Could use more time to dry up. Nice spice/yeast components.

6oz Bottle courtesy of Numenor. Murky brown body with no head. Huge molassas aroma with brown sugar, raisins, rum soaked fruit, caramel, and a bit of alcohol. Huge caramel and molassas flavor, more raisins and rum soaked fruit. Full body with very low carbonation and a thick not quite syrupy mouthfeel.

Bottle from Pizza Port Carlsbad. The beer is a dark rusty brown color with a medium and foamy beige head that dissipates slowly. Patches of lacing on the glass. The aroma is roasty with notes of malt and nuts, plus some hops. Rich and roasty with flavors of sweet malt, wood and nuts. Nice flavorful hops in the background throughout. The finish is malty and chocolatey with a lingering hops aftertaste. Right up there with the best Ambers I have ever tried. Drake’s continues to impress.

Bottle from Marcus - really appreciated. Amber color with a smallish off-white head. Aroma is fruit and floral. Amazing. Medium body with creamy carbonation. Flavor is fruit and floral hop over mildly roasted malt. Finish is malt and hop. Balanced. Really drinkable. Just excellent.

6 oz nip bottle courtesy of alohaC. Pour is cloudy brown ruby. No head whatsoever, in fact no noise at all when the cap was opened. Aroma of wood barrel and a whole bunch of the bourbon. Initially that’s pretty much it. As it opened, got some nice plum and raisins. Taste is sweet, boozy, bourbon, wood and some wet cardboard. Taste is really hot, overpowering really. This is pretty rough stuff for me, tasted somewhere in between a port and a bourbon. Aftertaste burns. The palate was nice and full, chewy really. I guess beers that push this far into the booze spectrum just aren’t for me.

Can at ZBF08. Powerful hop aroma, also very malty... Bonbon and caramel. Clear chestnut colour. Very small tan head. Very hoppy flavour, slightly biting hoppiness. Sharp grass finish. Very sweet but balanced well by the hops.

On draught at Freakin’ Frog in Las Vegas. This brew is a hazed amber-orange color with a medium beige head that dissipates slowly. Thin rings of lacing on the glass. Aroma of spice, bready malt and brandy. Rich-bodied, this beer is definitely a sipper. Flavors of sweet spices, caramel malt, raw fruit and rye. The finish is bready malt with an undercurrent of alcohol, hops and spices. Overall this is a distinct Barley Wine that is fairly enjoyable.
