6 oz nip bottle courtesy of alohaC. Brewed in September 2005. Pour is cloudy brown-orange with a tan head that fell quickly. Aroma of BIG Apple Brandy. Underneath that initial apples is the woodiness. Taste is herbal, woodsy, a bunch of green apples and heat. This was very warming, very much like sipping Brandy. As it warms, it picks up a decent full maltiness I didn’t sense at first. The aftertaste features a bit more heat, and some flat cardboard which makes me think this may be a touch past its prime. Not too far past though, this was a good one. Thanks Christian, every beer from that trade has been great.

Can [Thanks to Phil_L] @ Zythos Bier Festival 2008, Sint Niklaas, Belgium. Unclear medium amber orange color with a average, frothy, good lacing, mostly diminishing, off-white head. Aroma is moderate malty, caramel, moderate to heavy hoppy, pine, grape - orange. Flavor is moderate sweet and moderate to light heavy bitter with a long to average duration. Body is medium to full, texture is oily - syrupy, carbonation is soft to flat, finish feel is light to moderate alcoholic. (020308)

Small, fine, yellowish head, over orange-foxy beer. Orangey nose, not particulary hoppy, bit spicy, but very alcoholic. Bit of ureum. Caramel, alcohol, sweetish but with a fiery, bitterish-hoppy ending. Flavours as from brandy-cake. In the finish, dry-ish liquorice flavour, and orange jam. Some wholemeal-like flavour warming up, getting nutty. Fiery MF, but not astringent. Well bodied, very slick - oily. Alcoholwarming. The massive amount of alcohol does the beer no good, IMO, being too present. Flavours are OK, just too - alcoholic. A rare one, thanks very much, Rodger!

Huge, dense & fine yellow head over clear red-chestnut beer. Fine lace. Toiletsoap, C-hops, lytchee, ripe mango and pineresin. Superb inviting nose that makes one want to bite in the glass... Very bitter, orange- or grapefruitrind-like, also vegetable bitter, with a lot of C-hop flavour, near overpowering the not unimportant amount of malts, including caramel malt. Slick, slightly sticky-oily, resinous, very well-bodied, near chewy. A hard, somewhat unidimensional IIPA, but all in all a very good Westcoaster. Thank you very much, Rodger D.!

Bottle shared by Marcus. Thanks! A little of this goes a long ways. Dark plummy aroma. Brown hazy, sedimenty color with no head. Full bodied with very mild carbonation. Caramel, dark fruit in a light way, mildly warming. Finish is not sweet, but not really bitter. A very good sipper. Good competition for those high % Euro ales.

Thanks to Homerwantsbeer for sharing a bottle. The beer pours black with a wispy light beige head that disspates to almost nothing rather quickly. Spotty lace. Roasted coffee and chocolate in the nose, along with a bit of black licorice. Full, smooth body that falls a bit short on carbonation. Flavors of roasted malt, chocolate and coffee along with a bit of plum. The finish is roasty with mild hops and coffee lingering. Pretty solid all around, although overall it falls short of the best-in-class Imperial Stouts out there.

Draft. Amber beer with an off-white head. Sweet caramel, earthy spice aroma. Spicy, malty, sweet caramel flavor. Alcohol definitely present. Apricot and peach start to show. Medium body. Lingering caramel, spice, alcohol and light fruit (apricot).

500 ml swing top bottle courtesy of Ugsmush. Pour is mostly black, only some deep brown highlights. 2 inch tan head fades pretty quickly to some large bubbles on the surface of the glass. Aroma of motor oil, soy, and briny salt water. Beneath this was the more traditional coffee roastiness and pine hop bitterness. There is also a smoky - burning quality to the nose as well. The nose is muddled, and somewhat offensive. The taste came together nicely, the soy and brine gave this a great full, almost whisky like taste. The roast malt and hoppiness are nicely integrated as well. I will admit I didn’t think I would like this after the nose, but I did. This may be the widest disparity between aroma and flavor that I have had. Thanks for sending this one Jason!

Bottle at Post Zythos Struise Tasting 08. Really lovely aroma. Powdery choc. Quite a light impy stout. Only one hop used apparently. Roasted malts, but more subtle roasty/toasty than charcoal. Really soft. Bit of mintiness from the alcohol. Fresh and really rather good.

Viscously pouring beautifully magenta-tinted dark brown beer, with a medium yellow-brownish head. Chocolat/cacao nose (rather than coffee). Bit leafy, but nothing very outspoken. Sweet-bitter, coffee-ish beer, again, and a little cacaopowder flavour. Bitterish finish with even hops shining through. Very roasted, but getting sweeter after some time. Coffee cream, also in the MF that is indeed very creamy. Very restrained I.S., certainly seen its WC origins. Thank you, Rodger!
