Description
During the dawn of micro-brewing in the Bay Area Roger Lind started Lind Brewing Company, which would later become Drake's Brewing. Lind was a brewer at Triple Rock in Berkeley, one of the first brewpubs in America, and set off on his own to brew draft-only English-style ales. In 1998 Roger Lind sold the brewery to a local coffee company, which continued to brew Drake's beer. A new era started in 2008 John Martin and Roy Kirkorian, purchased the brewery. Over the ensuing 10 years, they've expanded brewing capacity, distribution, and started producing West Coast style ales using an abundance of high quality hops and malt. A new 60-barrel brewhouse and fermentation tanks to match, boosted our brewing capacity, ensuring more people could find and enjoy Drake's beer was opened in 2016.

Can from Beer Republic Advent Calendar, 16/12. Aroma is malty, doughy, earthy. Slightly bitter edge. Clear copper gold. Thin foamy white head. Light-medium bitter. Grainy. Slightly metallic. Doughy and citrusy and some sweetness and a dab of sourness. Sida water element to the finish. Light-medium bodied. Slick. Soft-average carbonation. Long dry slightly astringent finish. I was not enthused to pull a Golden Ale out of the package and this is definitely not an interesting beer but at least they've excluded twigs from the recipe.

Can Day 16, Loz's Beer Republic Advent Calendar, Monday 16th December 2024, listening to ByteFM. We had Beef Carbonnade Pies with Potato Croquettes, Carrots and gravy. Pours mid gold with a mid sized white head. Soft mouthfeel, easy drinking but it's a bit non descript, absolutely fine, it's a reasonable beer but for Drake's, btw a brewery that I like I was hoping for more. Straightforward, clean, light fruity, there is a little buzz. Not amazing but after Loz gave this short shrift I've come to the conclusion that it's better than I expected, it's a grower.

9,75 ABV.

From a 568ml can on 16/11/2024. Pours a clearish medium golden with a medium head. The nose is grassy with some light pine notes. Tastes of light citrus with a touch of biscuity malt, finishing nicely bitter. Medium bodied with average carbonation. It won't change your life but it's a really nice, solid decently hoppy pale ale.

Pint can pours with a crystal clear gold colored body that supports a white head of foam. The aroma offers up an inviting blend of tangelo and grapefruit followed by a bit of mango tropical fruitiness. The taste delivers a fresh citrus to tropical hoppiness that leans solidly in the direction of bitter to tangy hops. I get tangerine and grapefruit hop tangy bitterness bleeding into mango, raspberry and a sliver of passion fruit. Fun stuff.

Poured from the tap @ Drake's. Clear blonde with white head. Tropical hops with a fairly aggressive lager yeast profile. Slightly unbalanced, but still decent.

Poured from the tap @ Drake's. Clear yellow gold with white head. Citrus and pine hops, lightly chewy malt, fairly balanced, finish dissipates a little, but good.
