About
For nearly twenty five years, our mission here at Smuttynose has remained the same: to brew the best beer we can in a way we can be proud of. That includes honoring New England’s rich beermaking history, respecting our environment, and playing an active role in our community.

We value creativity, quality, authenticity and sustainability, but it really boils down to making great beers to enjoy with friends and family. We hope you love drinking our beers as much as we love brewing them. Cheers!

Cloudy beige colour. Woody, citric aroma. Woody, bitter flavour with some toasted bread notes. Simple but effective...they aren't re-inventing the wheel but they make a nice wheel. For fans of Big Daddy, 60 Minute and Bhagwan's.

(DRAFT) Light brown ale with a hoppy resinous aroma. However, the taste is hoppy but more like german hops, very sharp, and good malts. medium body. 04/03/04: The hoppy character of the beer comes well with the bottle, lots of grapefruits, very floral and resinous, with a good body...initially rated 7-3-6-3-13 on tap in Potsdam but now its 7-3-7-3-15, bottled.

Comments Hazy brown, fast fading tan head.Aroma of malt is lightly fruity.Flavor is mostly sweet malt.I get none of the hops everyone else is referring to. Seems rather flat to me. Much too sweet and undercarbonated to drink much. Thanks to Cap Flu!!

This beer is right on. If there isn't balance in an IPA it's just hop juice. Big Al comes into the ring with a big, long lasting head. After checkin' out the beautiful hazy amber color, Al moves on to the citrusy aroma before delivering a perfectly balanced punch of malt and hops. The long finish was the declaring factor in this match. Big Al a Winner.

Pais $1.09 for a single 12-oz. Medium orange to brown in color, small, frothy head. Decent aroma- smells bitter, if bitter has a smell. MMMM... this tastes good. Bittersweet, slight bite, but smooth, and very drinkable. This would be a good session beer, or a nice refershing summer beer. Thumbs up to this one.

Paid $1.09 for a 12-oz single. Nice amber with a small, but fluffy head. Looks nice. Smells like roasted sunflower seeds mixed with honey. A nice, simple, smooth taste. Slightly sweet, finishign with a tiny metallic twinge. A nice brew- not too rich, not too weak- it'd make a great session ale.

Paid $1.09 for a 12-oz single. Brown with mahogany highlights, small head... It has that nut brown smell... nothing original, but still nice. Plain, nut brown taste-- but it has an extra hint of sweetness in there that many don't have. A decent beer- nothing risky here.

Wheaty aroma. A little bit of clove in there. Light body. Wheat notes, and a slight lemony hint. Still, an abnormally restrained version of the style. Smutty is still a hit-and-miss brewery to me.

Ths is a good looking Porter that really comes on as it warms. Toffee aroma with a flavor of chocolate, coffee and caramel underneath. Long smooth finish. Very nice!
