This is a pretty darn good pale ale. Light copper in color with a slight lacing. Aroma is mostly of hops. This has a nice malt backbone, which makes way in the middle for the moderate hoppiness, but then returns again to join in harmony with the hops in the finish. The long-term of the finish, however, has an slightly unenjoyable bitterness to it. Overall a decent pale ale. I like these smuttynose people.

An OK brown ale. Not much going on in the aroma. Cloudy brown with a nice lacing. Nice mix of bitter and sweet in the flavor, with a touch of nuttiness in the background. Decent sweetness in the finish.

I don't know what everyone else has been drinking, but this is a pretty darn good barley wine. Cloudy ruby appearance with a decent lacing. Aroma of cherries, heavy with malts and alcohol. The beer is astrigent at first, but that goes away after warming a bit. Perfect body for a barley wine. Complex flavor - esters of cherries and raisins - caramel and toffee flavors. Some hops in the finish. This will probably age very well.

Good Porter. Nearly opaque, but not head and very little lacing. Decent malty, chocolate aroma. Tastes like coffee, hot cocoa, hops near the back of the tongue. Decent body and good maltiness. Finish is a touch bitter - baker's chocolate. The most chocolate porter I've had, and that counts Rogue Mocha Porter.

Nearly black with a tan head. The nose is roasty and chocolate. The flavor is is roasted and espresso turning to a dry, then bitter finish. Very complex and well balanced. Thanks to Captain Flurries for this one!!

Found at Jungle Jim''s in Fairlfield. Pours a dark amber with very little head and minimal lacing. Aroma is sweet malt and a little fruit. Flavor consists of malt, nuts, and caramel and tasted better as I let it warm. Overall not fantastic but a solid Brown Ale.

2003: This version is light bronze; with citrusy notes, lemon, toasted wood and bread. Very hoppy, toasty malts, grapefruity. What in its first incarnation was a unique and stylish beer is now a dime-a-dozen snoozefest.
2002: Hazy orangey-amber; drips with hops in the nose - resiny, like what I imagine it would be like to lick your fingers after picking hops all day. Large-scale hoppiness, but what I like about this is that unlike most Imperial IPAs, this is balanced and stylish. The hops are intense, but not over the top. The malts do not come in with an overhanded earthiness, but rather serve to provide sweetness only (higher pale malt to crystal ratio is definitely how I like my IPAs). Nicely done. (4.0 overall rating for this version)

Very black - nearly intransparent. Nicely softly malty, and full bodied. Very roasty, salty with notes of dark chocolate. Well balanced with a bitter finish. This is an outstanding porter!

Nut brown coloured. Sweetish with big, soft, chewy maltiness. A hint of crystal malt. Finishes with a well balanced bitterness. I really like the malt profile in this beer!
